A new season starts in the World Cycling Stats !   8)

For new participants who want to join the cycling for fun subleague in WCS :

1. Click this link :  http://www.worldcyclingstats.com/en/games

2. Create an account ( it is free ).

3. Join the cycling for fun subleague.
Click a tour or race that is open for participation, then click leagues, now you see a list of all subleagues, search for cycling for fun and click it.
To join, you have to use this code/password : SMJVO3G5
Participants who already joined the cycling for fun subleague do not have to use the password,
they just have to click the cycling for fun subleague and are automatically in.

4. You can change the language ; at the top of your WCS start page ( English, Dutch, Spanish or French ).

5. To play this game costs almost no time, just a few minutes to pick 15 cyclists and answer the extra questions.
You can also read a preview of the tour or race, a lot of previews are online. But this is not necessary, in my experience sometimes better results when you do the 15 picks + extra questions very fast without reading a preview.

6. After you picked your 15 cyclists and answered the extra questions ; nothing more to do, just relax and enjoy how your picks are doing. Do not forget to activate the 15 picks and extra questions with the select button at the bottom of your screen.

7. Enjoy and have fun !  :)

An example of a preview :
Just to read a bit:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/tour-down-under-2018/preview/

If you have questions, post it in this topic. A lot of CFF managers can help you and answer the questions.
Also you can use this topic to post a lot of different things ; the most important reason of this topic is to have fun.  :)
And advertise this game to your friendly CFF managers please ; more participants is even more fun.

Also in 2018 there will be the season trophies.
The winners of the CFF League season trophies of 2017 are :

Divine Champions Trophy = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/nl.png) Vos
Chief of Classic Trophy = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/us.png) oldmen

The first tour of 2018 has already 7 participants in the cycling for fun subleague.
A red cross means your selection is not complete (or it means you still have to answer the extra question ).
Check your 15 picks before the deadline, especially at the start of the season there will be changes before the tour starts.

(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/cb01fcd3e63b278de28260c47022c548.png) 2 days and 20 hours left to participate or make changes.

Also open to join and already 10 participants in the cycling for fun subleague :
(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/27707822768c9c9c00789bdb852cbeae.png) 3 days and 10 hours left to participate or make changes.

Also already open to join is the Vuelta a San Juan ( it starts in 9 days ).

General info : of course you do not have to play every tour and race of 2018.
For example some CFF managers play just the important tours and/or races, and some CFF managers play when they have the time and are in the mood to have fun in the WCS ( again, it costs almost no time to play this game and it is a free game and a lot of fun  :) ).

General info : this topic is in English.
But no problem if you use English full of mistakes, the main thing is that the reader can understand it.
Also no problem if you cannot write English (or you don't know how to use google translator or you don't have the time to use google translator) and use your own language in this topic.

I will be more active this year.

Tropical just some random picks actually, pretty hard.

Is one of my favourite races of the year. I am really into African Cycling, specially eritrean.

However, I've been picking my riders with the hearth still than with the head  ;D ;D

For example I'm following Zemenfes Solomon since 2016, and I'm pretty sure he will get a stagiare contract this year. I want him to win the Tropicale, so I picked him as a winner. However, he won't win  ;D ;D

(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/cb01fcd3e63b278de28260c47022c548.png) 1½ hour left to participate or make changes.
There are 13 participants.  8)
X --> Vos, plopsaladaantje, WinterIsComing and Combuijs. Check your picks when you read this in time.

To Thorin ; Funny, this tour was never part of the WCS before, but I remember this tour because you used this one several seasons ago in the big tour of the Live Races. Great job back then of you, and of course I understand you want to win this one. But my nickname is Zorro the Africa specialist, so it will be difficult for you to win :))
( just kidding, I have no clue who to pick, but it is a fun tour^^ )

According to me nothing went wrong and you are in the Tour Down Under. You are in La Tropicale also.

(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/cb01fcd3e63b278de28260c47022c548.png) Carstensen (GER) wins stage 1.
CFF League stage 1 winner = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/no.png) Averatalm   8)

Greipel wins stage 1.

CFF League stage 1 winner = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/no.png) Averatalm   8)

Very good start of the season of Averatalm with 2 stage victories !
In the Tour Down Under he has fierce competition of defending champion Kalarratas ( 2nd in stage 1 ).
In 2017 he won this tour and had the best season result of all CFF participants with his 2nd place WCS overall ranking in the Tour Down Under.

Actually 3 out of 3 for Averatalm!! Leading overall at Tropicale indeed ;). It would be nice to repeat the achieve of last year's TDU but seems unlikely if Averatalm's streak continues  ;D

Yes, very impressive of Averatalm ; at the moment he is leading the WCS overall ranking in La Tropicale, 6 points ahead of the nr2 !  8)
It think* it would be the first time ever that a CFF participant wins a tour or race in the WCS overall ranking.
(* = I'm not 100% sure, perhaps in 2016 someone won, but I cannot remember that so most unlikely)

(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/cb01fcd3e63b278de28260c47022c548.png) Jones (AUS) wins stage 2.

Thanks. Seems like my little research paid off. Hopefully I can make it till the end, bringing victory to cff :).

Congrats Kalarratas, but your only ahead with 2 points, so lets see what the next days bring. Might be a close one.

His 3rd stage victory in the CFF League of this tour, and he is still leading the WCS overall ranking of La Tropicale, 16 points ahead.

Averatalm was 2nd in the CFF League and still leading the GC there, but dropped to place 4 in the WCS overall ranking of La Tropicale.  :'(
And of course everyone knows that in La Tropicale the CFF League mountain jersey is the most important price.  :))

Great victory of Richie Porte.
yep, true !
And one of your favorite cyclists, the just 20yo Solomon, almost won stage 6 of La Tropicale ( he lost in a sprint-a-deux and was 2nd ).

(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/cb01fcd3e63b278de28260c47022c548.png) Nocentini (ITA) wins stage 6.
Areruya (Rwanda) is still the GC leader with 1 more stage to go, but that is a flat one, so most likely he will win this tour.

CFF League stage 6 winner = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/us.png) oldmen   8)
Averatalm is the GC leader with a very big lead.
And in this stage I lost the mountain jersey to Shalgo, although he has the same amount of mountain-points.
Probably because he (5th) is ranked higher in the GC than me (7th).

Yes, that must have been a real last minute change, because I checked my team 5 hours before the deadline and then he was still in.
I did not pick him, but in case he decided to ride the mountain stage very good (and he is also good in the TT), I picked him as GC winner.

I should have selected more sprinters too, but I like the climbers more, always the same mistake that I make^^

In case the WCS 2017 topic will be deleted ; I will save the most important data in this topic.
I assume WCS has a lot of data saved too, but just to be sure I will save the winners of 2017.

But the main reason is of course that the season trophies are saved, so I just have to copy paste to make a new one for 2018.
Otherwise too much effort to make a new one all over again.

Daniel Juarez (leader mountain classificsation) was a lucky pick. 8)

If he doesn't fall off the bike in the final 2 stages, he will most likely win the overall mountain classification for me.  ;D

You can win the GC as well, at the moment 2nd GC and you picked more sprinters than oldmen, the GC leader.
And I guess there are more participants who still can win this tour in Argentina ; 2 more flat stages to go.

The GC in CFF maybe, but not overall. I was referring to my position in mountain classification in the overall standings, not only CFF.  8)

First flat stages weren't so great for me. We will see where it will bring us all.

Good job, keeping this game and thread alive, Vos.  :)

Amazing Valverde!
I agree, he is fully recovered after his severe crash in the time trial of the Tour de France (stage1, and I picked him back then).
Perhaps he (despite his old age) will ride again an awesome first half of the season, just like he did last year.
I think he will be one of my picks anytime^^

BMC Racing Team won the team time trial on stage 3 of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana but the day’s real winner might yet prove to be Alejandro Valverde (Movistar). The Spaniard retains the overall lead after the race organisation decreed that the day’s stage would not count towards the general classification due to the inclement weather conditions in Calpe.

CFF League results are not yet updated.

Halfway the Tour of Oman it is looking very good for you ;
still 1st in the WCS GC with a gap of 60 points towards the nr2, that is a lot.
Also you are 1st in the WCS ranking of the sprint jersey, but of course this is by far not as important as winning the WCS GC and beating 323 (!) other participants. Good luck Averatalm !  :)

General info : This season the best tour of a CFF participant in the WCS GC was achieved by oldmen ; 6th in the Vuelta a San Juan.

In the picture the break away group in stage 4.

Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) used his Classics skills to win the uphill, cobbled finish at Alcalá de los Gazules Saturday at Ruta del Sol, surging away from Mikel Landa (Movistar) to win the stage and gaining enough time on Wout Poels (Team Sky) to also take the overall race lead.

The break of the day was caught as the gradient kicked up at 19 per cent and then Landa and Wellens took control. They opened a gap on the narrow lane and then Wellens kicked away on the final section to win by five seconds. Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) was third at 12 seconds, with Poels at 13 seconds.
Wellens took the leader's red jersey and now leads Landa by seven seconds, with Poels slipping to third at 11 seconds.

The final overall winner will be decided in Sunday's 14.2km individual time trial on a loop near Barbate.
Chris Froome suffered a late puncture and lost any chance of overall success in his first race since his salbutamol case emerged.

This tour has just 2 stages, so also here there is a change of a historical and unique WCS victory of Averatalm.
The number 2 in the WCS GC has just 1 point less, so he has way more change in the Tour of Oman. There the final stage will finish in about 5 minutes. Exciting !

Awesome, great to finally have a win for CFF ;D

I really did pick well this time, and not only did that bring med a WCS-GC victory, but with a total of 264 points, its like more than an extra stage margin victory! Im amazed by my own picks  ;D

Now, im excited waiting for the results of Haut Var, maybe I can bring nr 2 as well, and by the looks of the first results, it is not impossible, but I call it will be a close one.

CFF League stage 5 winner (ánd WCS stage winner !) and GC winner (3rd GC WCS ranking) = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/pt.png) BrotasTeam   8) 8)

In the CFF League Averatalm wins also the sprint- ánd youth jersey.

In my opinion: 6 people with the same amount of points means 6 winners. Sounds stupid but it wouldn't be fair to let someone win due to things that doesn't matther fot the white jersey (like the alphabet en who got more points with older riders).

Ok, good point of view, AJ, I agree with that. It is also way easier for me then to look at other results to see who has really won and besides that, I agree with your arguments that it is not fair.
In my opinion a bit weird that there are 6 white jersey winners in one tour, but the best solution and this will not happen often and it is just a not important tiny little issue, the white jersey.

edit ; Thanks for your opinion, AJ. I changed it in the results ; now 6 white jersey winners in the Volta ao Algarve.  :)
Of course also now, if people do not agree with this, let us know in this topic then we debate about it.

Do you know something about Wout Van Aert??

I really wanna see him this year fighting against the big boys. I've read that he will skip Het Volk, he is preparing Roubax and De Ronde. However, I've also seen him in some startlists for tomorrow.

----

Btw... Will Lutsenko fly tomorrow like last week?  ;D ;D

Lutsenko has a good form, that is for sure.
But I m still in doubt if I will pick him, he might take it easy and just help one of his teammates to get a good result.
About Wout van Aert ;
I just know he prepared himself better this season for all the upcoming cobblestone races (he skipped some cyclocrosses, his speciality).
And he will be the team captain in his not so good team.
I really don't know what to expect of him , but he is for sure a great 23yo talent. Perhaps he is still too young to ride a finale, because the competition is experienced and fierce.

I've read that he will skip Het Volk
Het Volk is the old name of Omloop het Nieuwsblad, so your information is not correct because he will ride that race, like you noticed already.
But it could also be that you read that his focus is on the more important races Roubaix and Vlaanderen, and he just uses this race to see how he is compared to the competition.

I know him, I was just asking about skipping tomorrows' race.

Because in Zweeler they deleted him a few days ago. However they have just add him again today.

I'm happy to be back  :)
And by that I mean not just in this game but also in general.
Very soon I will be active just as before but at the moment it takes a little bit too much effort.

I missed a lot of awesome tours and races in WCS. Also in the normal CFF game.
But it is just a game and with my "great picks" in WCS and famous fox-tactics in the normal CFF game ;
then I quickly undo the backlog due to inactivity.  ;)

Amazing Valverde!
For sure he is !  8)
When he gives an interview immidiatly after every stage, he looks extreme fresh and talks like he had been walking in the park for 100 meters instead of an extreme difficult and brutal mountain stage of 170km or so on the bicycle with a lot of top cyclists/climbers who want to win also.
I have high expectations of him this season, despite of his age. ( maybe he gets younger every year, I m in doubt if that is the case  :)) )

The Scheldeprijs was breaking up in echolons and a lot of riders were disqualified for ignoring level crossing.
Among them a lot of favorites, for example like Demare and Groenewegen.
Without this competition it seemed this race was for Kittel, but he got a flat tyre 10 kilometers before the finish and could not come back.

Excellent performance (a solo attack 7km before the finish) ofTim Wellens who wins the Brabantse Pijl.
As Wellens crossed the line he pointed one finger to the sky in memory of Michael Goolaerts, who tragically died at Sunday's Paris-Roubaix. A minute's silence was observed at the start of the race in Leuven, with all of Goolaets' teammates in attendance.

Just a reminder on league rankings lists for upcoming tours/races.  League ranking is based on how many people have indicated that they're going to participate for the race in question.  You don't need to select everything to register this, just selecting one thing, such as a team, or GC winner, will do this; and in turn see the CFF league climb the league rankings list.

Probably I m missing the purpose of your text completely, AA.
But I can say something about the ranking of the leagues, although in my opion this subject is inapplicable / does not matter :

Before the race or tour =
True, you r right, every league has still zero points so the number of participants counts in how high a league is ranked.
After the race or tour =
The ranking of the leagues is based on the average points won of all participants in that particular league.

So this means that the cycling for fun league is always very high ranked before the race or tour starts, because we are one of the biggest WCS leagues.
And this means also that the cycling for fun league is always very low ranked after the race or tour, because leagues with just a few participants have an huge advantage in average points scored by a league participant.

I've had to actually make a painful choice on which top cyclist to pick/not pick, last year it was all perfectly easy how liberal they were with available points.  Much better.

Yep, difficult choices this year, AA. I still have big doubts about my picks, perhaps I have to gamble to beat you.  ;)

Was looking for a good reason to keep Froomey out of my team, so I am glad he had a training crash.  ::)

Now let's hope he rides like sh*t this Giro.  8)

Good luck everyone.

Froome was a question mark for me.
I may have picked the wrong Moviestar cyclist, we'll see.
The big gamble I've taken is that Viviani will retire in week two and save himself for the TdF.

I'm just looking to beat you two guys Vos & WiC :)

About Viviani, maybe he does.
However, he did say before this Giro a big goal for him was to win the point jersey, so I guess it depends if he does well earlier in the tour and have a chance to win it :).

I did this last minute change ; Lopez for Yates.
In fact, I wanted to pick them both. Yates is just picked 5 times.
And I already regret this because when I do a last minute change it always turns out badly, and now Yates  will ride an awesome Giro. :))
But had to use some stars for sprinters too, and already could not pick for example Pozzovivo, he is picked just once (by Thorin).

(https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/logos/e617b17b291bd745e278fbfd7c242835.png) Dumoulin wins the prologue.

You r welcome Kalarratas, and indeed, I had to write your name too many times in this update :))

And your Giro is even more "impressive" as mine.
I really suck in the big tours.
And this is what I posted right after the prologue in Jerusalem^^ :
I did this last minute change ; Lopez for Yates.
In fact, I wanted to pick them both. Yates is just picked 5 times.
And I already regret this because when I do a last minute change it always turns out badly, and now Yates  will ride an awesome Giro. :))

Not annoying to your competition, because in every race you are the top favorite (see season trophies overview)  ;)

And here is another chance for you to become 2nd or 3rd,
so that the competition can close the huge gap in victories you achieved this season.  8) Next tour =

Dennis won stage 16, the time trial. Stage 17 winner is Viviani, his fourth stage victory in this Giro.

CFF League :
stage 16 winner is also here Australian  :) = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/au.png) Aurora Australis   8)
stage 17 winner, and this time not a 2nd or 3rd place, but one of the many 1st places of him this season  :) = (https://www.worldcyclingstats.com/img/flags/small/no.png) Averatalm   8)

Foeke is still leading the GC with 3 mountain stages and one sprint stage to go.
But it is very close in the GC, Aurora Australis just 20 points behind.
BrotasTeam is also very close and already won 5 stages this Giro, 2 in the mountains, 2 "hills"stages and the prologue.
However, Foeke won also a lot of stages (4x) ; 1 mountain-, 2 "hills"- and 1 sprint stage.
And although the number 4 of the GC, Averatalm, is a little further behind in the GC, this season it is not wise to underestimate "the Eddy Merckx of Norway" and perhaps he will win the Giro.

CFF League General Classification :

Finally, it loosened up with some wins.
It did not go all the way in the Giro, and my horrible picks of Team and not the pick of Carapaz is all to blame for that. Stupid De Marchi, who im in last minute inserted instead of Carapaz after his statement of looking forward to go in a lot of breakaways in the giro...  ::)

Bold words Vos, lets see how you match them in July :)  I'll just point out that your previous TdF records have been 14th 2016(out of 18), and 20th 2017(out of 21).
Btw a note: I've participated 5 times since 2013, and my lowest result has been 6th (2013 out of 36), and again in 2017 (the shocker screwed up TdF); and twice have been in the top 100 for all participants on that site (12th out of 5506 in 2014).
Sjiz is however the person to beat based on previous form.

Btw,I was beaten by everyone at last year's TDF even Vos finished ahead of me...  :P  ;D Anyway the Grand Tours aren't my thing at all so I'll stick to small ones where my picks seem more appropriate indeed  8)

What on earth is going on. This is the second race in a row, where I pick 5 starts less, and this im positive it stated 35 starts only in my pick. Now I see the rest have 40, what is going on...
Well, im 3rd so far, but it will be ridicilous if I can win TDS with 5 stars less.

I just saw 40 stars, and I made my selection before you made your last change in your team. Strange that you saw 35 stars.
Good luck anyway, although I agree with you that 5 stars less makes a huge difference.
