Title: Division 2a Lounge
Post by: Kazistuta on January 22, 2012, 09:26:20 pm
Hopefully there's some active division 2a managers in this forum, just like 2c. Join in and tell a bit about your team, your hopes - and pop the bottles when successes are pouring in  :D

Here's Team Boogie Woogie checking in, newly promoted. Actually I only wanted to promote if the top ranked Danish team demoted from 1st (which he didn't  :'(, even though he was 61st before the last race), so I could try to get the best ranked Danish team trophy... I don't know how the quality of 2a is, and I have no ambitions of promoting from second division this soon. Hopefully my primary riders will still be absle to get top5 placings, and I intend to be competitive for the major part og the season.

I shall keep talking to myself after scoring my first division 2 win on 5th stage of Paris-Nice. Currently TBW is placed fourth in a close race, Norteks team is crushing everyone with his superior cobble-hills team.....

Will be happy to keep a top5 placing...

I'm finally in 2nd division, and ended up in 2a. I'm not expecting promotion, but will do my best to stay around #20, I just need to buy some new hillers. I will have it difficult this season without any at all :)

Whoa! I'm in 2a - and I'm scared to death! :o

It's been a quick rise for me, maybe to quick. Somehow, I wound-up in 4th place in 3d. I had by far the fewest medals of the top teams there, but I was able to keep scoring points. I'm not sure my team is really good enough to be here with the big guys, but I will do my best to stay competitive. If I find myself getting blown out, then I might just have to race less, and train more.

I also can't believe I am in a division with it's own chat room! Good stuff, glad to be here! :) :)

Hello all,

@hi TeamGiacomo, nice 2 see you again ;)

I promoted 2 times in a row as winner of my division (4b1 and 3d). This season will be a hard one. First race i see it will be very difficult to collect points. Only thing i can do is select my best riders and see how far i come. Funny 2 see that nr 1 (me) 2 (Syarco) and 4 (TeamGiacomo) of 3d promoted to this division. I hope most managers will be active in this forum. I don't think i will promote to division 1, because most cyclers are U23. Sorry for my worse english, but i try my best to practice it to a higher level in this forum:P

Good luck every1.

Wow, 5 points to Trevor Simpson in the first race. In 3rd he was sure to be top 3 in this race :) What a difference, but at least I will score minimum 5 points this season  :P

A division topic, nice.

I just found my way to 2a. So I'll soon see where I stand. Today a 15th place, not bad. Over a hundred riders for a class D race, in 3a that's less than 50. Last season was a super season for me, now the competition will be tough. Every point is a point gained I think. I hope to finish top 20 and then every season a little bit better.
I also see a lot of Dutch players here, beware of them. They know how to generate a lot of money and thus can buy very good riders.

Hello all,

@hi TeamGiacomo, nice 2 see you again ;)

Nice to see you too!  :)

You really had a great season in 3d. Seeing what you did there, makes me think you can do well here. I know I'm going to need alot of luck to score points in this division. So far, none. Although I came in 4th last season, I was quite far away from your performance. I'm also surprised to see how many riders are competing in the races here! That was a real wake-up call for sure. Well, I'll give it my best shot and hope for the best!

Your English is fine, certainly better than my Dutch! ;D

WooHooo! Scored some points over the last two races - 3 yesterday and 3 today! :D

OK, I know thats nothing to get excited about, but to be honest the way things started out, I wasn't sure I could score points at all this season! So for me, these points are pretty big! Still abit of a let down though, because 3 of those points came from a rider that won the Eneco Tour for me last season in div. 3d and the best he could do here, at least so far, is a 30th place showing.

Yup, I've got my work cut-out for me here! :P

Competition is so much harder in 2a, than 3rd division. I'm just looking forward to see my riders in action in the mountains later in the season. Hopefully more points than the 5 points I have now :) But cobble and hills is not my strength.

(http://cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/dinamarca.jpg) Cristian Adamsen
Age: 23. Adamsen will have to show his skills on the mountain flat stages. Hopefully he will be good enough for at least one top 10 during the Paris-Nice tour.

(http://cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/usa.jpg) George Ablett
Age: 23. Ablett is a strong climber with additional average hills skills, so hopefully that is enough for him to end up in top 10 in atleast one stage, and a top 20 in the overall standing.

(http://cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/usa.jpg) Trevor Simpson
Age: 23. Trevor will be the captain for the Paris-Nice. His problem is downhill, but he has all the skills he need for a strong finish in the overall standings.

(http://cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/noruega.jpg) Noah Rørvik
Age: 25. Noah is a strong climber, and now also with okay flat, which means he should be able to stay together with the other climbers on the flat climbing stages in the Paris-Nice. Noah should be good enough for a top 20 result in the overall standings.

(http://cyclingforfun.org/cff/imagenes/usa.jpg) Stephen Jones
Age: 26. Jones has always been the helper in tours, and will be it again.

158 riders for paris-nice, that is a lot. I was hoping for a top-30 place in the first stage, it's 58th. The next stages should be better for us, hopefully they are.
It's a good lesson: Don't try to get a mediocre result, It won't work.

Nice, a 2a topic.

Well, being promoted twice in a row I don't expect to much this season, but already I'm in 4th place. Don't expect to hold on to that though, although my team is mostly built for the tours...

Paris-Nice is a test race for me. How good is Potin in this division, he's very all round. Tello was great in 2 last year with 2 podiums in grand tours (Giro and Vuelta). In a weak 3d division Potin won the Vuelta with a huge difference from the number 2, Vali (also in my team). Vali won the Giro. So I'm curious what the level is in 2a. I don't expect Vali to be able to win anything this year, I'd be very surprised if he could make top 10 in the Tour... He lost a lot this first race in Paris-Nice already.

Whoa - got a 10th place finish in todays stage!  8) :D

That definetely got me excited. I do have some decent hillers/sprinters, but I wasn't expecting that good a result today, especially given the huge amount of riders entered! Sheeeesh! :o

Climbers are what I am really lacking, so I'm not looking for a good overall here for sure.

Hey chi, great job on 4th place! ;)

Blah, had a 31st place finish in todays TT.

The way he was progressing through the sections, I thought for sure he would make 30th and get those 3pts.! Goodness, I was chomping at the bit for those 3 lousy little points... :-\

2nd and 3r place overall one race before the end. I hope Potin can keep the 3d place from Marbley, a monster.

With Vali, who seems to be unlucky this round, at 17 it's turning out to be a very good Paris-Nice. Since the last race seems to be his favorite I'm expecting a few better positions from him at the end. Never expected to be able to do this in 2a...

Unbelievable, 2 wins in a row, my two best riders can get results. Donati in a stage made for him and some good riders probably weren't present. But Randen in the final stage of PN, that result gets him on the podium of PN. I Didn't think my team was ready for such results. Now let's see of Vermeersch can finish in the top 20 of TA or a good result in a stage. This season already exceeds my expectations.

Also nice to see that teams that struggled in the beginning are getting results now.

It really has been difficult, but it looks like we're coming into some good hill races now, so I should fare alittle better here (I hope!). Not sure about the Giro. I'll be going after some decent stage finishes there, but I don't think I have a snowballs chance in hell of a good overall. ;D

Well, we're finally out of the cobbles and into some nice hill races now, which I thought was my strength, yet I can't break the top 50!  :o

I have a rider that has an 88 in hills, a 66 flat, an 82 sprint with solid secondary numbers, and he hasn't gotten past 60th in the last two hill races. I can only imagine the numbers the riders of the top teams have here! I havn't scored a point in quite awhile now and I was hoping to show well in these hill races, but no dice so far. There are a couple of good hill races still coming up that should be favorable to my team, so there is still some hope I guess, but if this keeps up I might have to have to stop racing and just train I guess.... :-\

The rider like you discribe is a sprint-hill rider. For stages like Milaan-San Remo. For hills stages like this you need: Hills, downhill, stamina, aggressiveness and flat. Sprint only when the last section is flat. You need a rider that has a bronze hill icon, to finish top 20. I think skills like +-90 hills, and 50-60 for the other skills I named. If some skills are less then 50, other secundairy skills need to be better.

If you aren't getting the results you want for certain stages, you will need to get a rider from the transfermarket and sell some of the riders you have. The riders you allready have and aren't getting result (unless they are young and training 100%), simply aren't good enough. It's better to have 1 good rider, than 10 that struggle for place 30.

Your stages are still to come, take your bronze sprinter to tours with 2-3 sprint stages. He will finish top 10 at least.

I knew I was going to struggle some in the 2nd division, but I didn't think it would be this bad I guess. I really thought I could do some top 30 finishes and grab some points in the hill races that have just passed, so I guess I'm abit disheartened to see such poor results. I thought hills were my strength!  ;D

My team is generally pretty young, so there is hope for the future.  I'm really thinking of laying low and go into training mode for awhile. As for the transfer market, I am always on the lookout and I'm always looking to make some moves. I spent some big bucks on a couple of riders already but they havn't shown a great return yet, such as the rider I mentioned above. I definetly think these guys can do well here, or at least better than they have shown so far, so I am going to have to be alittle more patient. Train, train, train!

Bring on some sprints! :)

I can believe that, he's a great tour rider. Last season Garrido and Ramirez were better (one and two years older I believe), but Randen started in more races. He shouldn't have rode the Vuelta, but a chance to win the individual ranking changed that. If he rode the WC Time Trial, the 120 points there would have made it so. A little mistake. This season he is going for the individual ranking u23. Hopefully Paris-Nice is a good reference, we will know more after the Giro.

You are doing pretty good at the moment, 5th place. Joining 2a next season?

Thanks Johnny.

Don't lay low and train. It is possible to ride stages without losing health, all my climbers are training at 100% and ride to get experience. Because of that I lose 3-8 trainings per season. But they gain 5-10 experience. That's why a start every race with 5 riders, 4 of them may end in the bottom 5, that doesn't mather.

21 year old riders are young, 23 isn't young any more (only u23 training bonys). If riders don't get a bronze icon by age 23-24, they will rearly get good results ever (at this level, they can at divsion 3-4). If riders are close to a bronze icon, keep them and train at least until they have it. Otherwise sell them and buy, pull, scout, draft young riders (19 or 20 years). The stars at your team page are always a good reference. They refere to your best rider for a certain speciality, 4 stars = bronze icon (approximately). For division 2, 4 stars is good. So you have a good sprint, a reasonable hills and cobblestones. Most players train climbing or hills, so to get results there you need very good riders, that's probably why your hill riders had so much difficulty.

Remember you can pump the stimuli for a rider during races!
Such as better gear...
Your staff is all about bonus during a race. But what is best for the rider or your ambition in the long run: training or results?
Or try to use a helper for the best rider to make a jump in the final ranking  :P

You are doing pretty good at the moment, 5th place. Joining 2a next season?

I have not decided that I want to be promoted to 2nd or not. I will know more after Giro. If I promote, I want to do that with 20k points at least.

Hoooray! Some success! :)

I went hill/sprinter heavy for the Giro and placed 4 of my 5 riders in the top 30 in stage 1, with one coming in a nice 5th place. The 5th place rider was helped by a training camp. I have zero chance for a good overall, but there are 2 sprints to take here and a couple of hill races I could have a shot at, thats why I went in this direction. I was really hoping for a good start to this Giro, and I couldn't be happier. Might do OK in the TT as well. I'm still on the lookout for that great overall Tour rider.

Thanks for the help guys! ;)

Congrats to KTeamRC, chi and Reekse_Verkuhs for there great Giro GC finish! :)

Everyone reach there goals for the Giro?

Well, I feel very good about this tour and I surprisingly exceeded the goals I set. I went after good stage finishes in the two sprints, the TT and the hill stage and I came out very well in those races, especially the sprints, where I placed 4 out of 5 of my riders in (or very near) the top 20 in both. Would have loved to make the podium, but I feel good to get 5th in one. As for the GC, well, we won't go there! ::)

I do need a good all-arounder. I have a young rider that I hope will be ready by next season to be competitive.

So, lets hear from you guys!

Want to trade one of your climbers for one of my sprinters? ;D

What happened? I was 4th or 5th before I went on holiday. Now I am 3th and there is a gap of 2000 points between 5th and 6th place. Not good for me, because a only have good climbers. So in 1a I will have great difficulty. My plan was to sell my equipment and so end 6th or 7th. In the begin of the season I even thought, I would struggle to be 10th.

Wow, I've clawed my way up to 20th place in the division.

I really wasn't expecting that, but my sprinters are really pulling me up now. No wins or podiums, but a few top 10's and alot of top 20's have gotten me here. We'll see if I can keep going up from here... :)

The Tour de France is finished and Randen won it before Veldeman (chi) and Ritter (Reekse_Verkuhs). That makes it an incredible Tour for me. Vermeersch also finished 12th, that makes him second in the individual standings u23 after Randen, not bad for a 21 year old. Randen does even better, he is now leading the individual standings before Bolwinkel (KTeamRC) and Eesma (oriateam). And his result gets me the second place in the overall standings, after KTeamRC (who is just to strong for the rest) and before chi (we will fight untill Lombardije for that second place). So, I couldn't wish for a better Tour.

How did your riders do?

I saw TeamGiacomo with 3 riders in top 30 in the last stage. For the rest, I was pretty fixated on the Tour standings, so I missed a lot.

Ouch!

A rough start to the Eneco Tour for me. I failed to make a top 30 in the first stage. I had high hopes for a top 20 GC finish here, which would have been my first, and very likely only, in any tour this season, but now I'm not so sure. This tour seemed taylor made for my team and I patiently waited for it all season so I could make a big (well, maybe not sooo big!) splash. Last season I won this tour in 3d! :o

Well, season 7 started off pretty badly for TeamGiacomo, but once I got over the shock of how good some of the teams were here, I seemed to recover and have a half decent finish. But I'm still here! ;D

Any newbies to the division want to introduce themselves? :)

Made my debut last night in 2a. Got a 15th place. Shows there is quite a gap between division 3 and 2. I'll take some time the first season to see the level and strengthen my team where necessary.

Welcome GMV!

No doubt there is a big difference between division 2 and 3. Some of my riders who were podium finishers in div. 3 never made a dent in div. 2. It was a scary beginning here! It took me quite awhile to get a 15th place, so you should feel good about that!

I hate these first few stages. If you don't score points, you quickly fall way back in the standing's, even into the dreaded red zone! But I have to remember that you can also move up quickly with a few good stages as well...

Reekse Verkuhs, you are just killing it this season! 8)

Does anyone else have a rider that you are just so disappointed with because just know should be scoring points, but he just doesn't?

I paid a nice amount for this rider, and he hasn't lived up to my expectations at all. I have what I feel are lesser riders outscoring this guy on daily basis. I don't get it. This guy should be a pretty darn good hill/sprinter IMO with these primary numbers and nice secondaries.

    Age : 24   Wage : 814
Stamina : 32   Sprint : 85   Climbing : 43
Flat : 66   Cobblestone : 59   Technique : 59
Downhill : 8   Hills : 87   Aggressiveness : 48
Time Trial : 8   Teamwork : 47   Experience : 17

So whats wrong with this guy? :(

Yes I know the feeling, I wasted a lot of money on this guy thinking he would be good in Tours. But 16 races and 0 points so far  >:( maybe it's just me that are using him with bad tactics :)

Conrado Barriga   Age : 23   Wage : 804

Well, sorry to hear that - but it's good to have company!

He does have some nice numbers. I would have expected him to do well in the mountains also, if not in the GC too. You were probably as excited to land him as I was to land my "superstar" hill/sprinter, only to be gutted with his results. I'm now trying totally different tactics with my guy. It can't hurt...

These riders are no winners for 2a, but you should be able to score points. Maybe your equipment isn't good? You should have at least 5*. Other things like a good staff, health and form is important. When you ride, you can use 12 skill points, calm=0, full=5.

No, he certainly isn't a winner here, but he has a scant 23 points in 15 races! My equipment right now is all 5 star, with one 4 star. My staff is good, especially for single stage race, motivation and team spirit and my riders health and form is always at 100% for a race. And yeah, I do use 12 skill points. Like I mentioned previously, I have riders with lesser skills beating this rider regularly. It's frustrating, because I thought this rider was going to be the star of my team, instead he is the goat. :(

This rider can't get a 15-20 in  hill/sprint, let alone a flat sprint! ;D

I'm only a 3rd division team, but if I look at his stats, my assumption is that he lacks too much on his downhill stat to make a good impact on hill courses. His stamina isn't too good either. So if you ask me, he's got the stats on hill and sprint, but his secondary stats aren't really good. I'm sure there are better riders in 2nd division, as I know there are better ones in 3rd division as well.

You know, you could very well be right about my riders lack of downhill skills. I didn't see it as being very necessary in hill racing. I saw downhill skills only being important in the climbing stages. Kind of dumb on my part. I'll have to get him working on some downhill and see what happens. Thanks for the help... :)

Hello everyone, it was a long time. I think the same thing for your guy Giacomo, he has too bad downhill and stamina for being a star. I have the same problem with a guy that I have before.

WooHoooo!

I love the Eneco Tour! 8)

Had a couple of nice GC finishes for a change, coming in with a 7th, 9th and an 18th. That's a relief. I have some good all-arounders for a flat/cobble/sprint tour like Eneco. I'm hoping for another decent finish in the Deutchland Tour, although it probably won't be as strong. Right now, these two tours are pretty much my only hope for good GC finishes.

One thing I don't have in almost two seasons in 2a is a podium finish! Good grief, I can't wait to finally get one of those... ::)

So far, so good in the Deutchland Tour. Hopefully my riders can keep up the momentum. I have only one of my original riders left from the day I joined CFF, and I'm hoping he can come up big here. He's my sentimental favorite and he'll be with me till he's an old man!. I sent him to training camp for the Eneco, which he did pretty well, and here. He's holding 9th place after stage 2, but he is not a good TT rider at all. I hope he doesn't fall to far.

Looks like me and you are fighting it out for 20th place or so in the 2a standings! ;D

Oh well, we're far off of the front runners, that's for sure, but maybe next year my team will be ready to contend for a top 10 finish.

With some good tour riders you deserve a lot of points. In my second season in 2nd divison i am nr. 2 of 2A. If i didn't forgot sign up my riders in Portugal and Dauphine i had the first place. In some races i also forgot the tactics in first race of a round. But i don't complain with a second place. I am happy with the victory of Bruseghin in Tour. Next year in first divison it will be very difficult to get some points.

Arrrgh! I've had a terrible finish here. The WC's did not go my way at all, and these last hill races have been a shutout for my team. I'm hoping for some points in these last two sprint races. Good luck, it's going to come down to the wire between our two decidedly mediocre teams! ;D

So another season come's to an end here at CFF. How did my team do? (do you care?) ;D

Welllllllll - mixed results really. Last season I came in 20th pl., this season 21st.. But this season I scored more points.

I trained all-season in sprinting, and I now have some pretty decent riders there. But they were still no match for some of the top teams sprinters, who must be real machines. Goodness, in some of the sprint races, my sprinters couldn't crack a top 20. I was really surprised and impressed at the level of some of those top team sprinters. I'm going to continue in sprint training for a bit, then maybe go into some flat training to round these guys out some. Then, watchout world! ;D

I made a couple of expensive aquisitions in the transfer market, of which only two have proven to be decent. The other's are in "training". Hopefully they will pan out next season. I thought I bought a really good climber, which I needed, but there are so many great climbers in this division, he barely made dent. Scary!

After two full season's in 2a, I still have no podium finishes! And none of my riders have ever been listed as a favorite! Pretty sad really, but somehow I seem to squeak in around 20th place. I won the vast amount of my challenges, which was a bright spot. Forget about pleasing my sponsors in this division. I'm only accepting sprint and TT races from now on, as I have no chance of meeting their requirements in any other race.

The Eneco and Deutchland Tours are the only 2 tours I have a shot at a good GC finish. One of my riders came in 4th overall in the Deutchland Tour and a 7th in the Eneco. I can only go for stage "wins", or should I say points, in the Grand Tours. I still don't have that great overall rider yet, but he is coming along!

Looking at the top teams in our division is scary! They scored 4 times the amount of points that I did in 21st, almost all there riders have at least a bronze statue next to there name's and the they have a whole bunch of podium finishes and wins to their credit. Yeah, it's safe to say I'm probably at least another 2 season's from that.

So congratulations to 2a's top teams. Good luck in 1a. We're going to miss you! (really, we're not. Get the heck out already!) ;)

So tell us how your team did! :)

Hey everyone, just checking in to say hello to my new division rivals  :)

I've promoted in my first 2 seasons (2nd in 4th division behind Triton, who's in this division now as well, 1st in 3rd division), but I think it will be very hard or almost impossible for me to achieve another promotion this season. So, obviously, that won't be a goal for my team. Just want to have fun this season and keep progressing my riders as well as my own coaching abilities. Looking forward to an interesting season :)

Good luck to all of you.

Hello all, I'm also a new addition to the 2a division. I've been promoted twice in a row just like WIC. I finished first in the 4th and 3rd divisions and am looking forward to another competitive year. I've had to adjust my goals a bit after the unexpected result last season, this year I'm hoping for a consolidating season, training my riders and seeing if any of my riders manage some decent points in the 2nd.

Really glad to see my competition from the 4th division, WIC and Thorsen (who also competed in my 3rd division) in the same division. That guarantees a active forum conversation!

Good luck all and save me some points ;).

So another season come's to an end here at CFF. How did my team do? (do you care?)

I still read this topic, I'm back in 2nd division. But you'll be glad to know it is in 2c.
Triton and WinterIsComing are active forum users, a good addition for the 2a forum.

So best of luck for all 2a teams!

Welcome to 2a WinterIsComing and Triton!

Going by your quick rise and winning ways in the 3rd and 4th divisions, it sounds like you guys are going to make an immediate impact here in 2a.  Hope your not in for the rude awakening that I got when I promoted here! ;D

Hey Johnny, sorry to see you back in the 2nd division, but I'm happy that 2c will now have to deal with your team and not us! ;)

Hey guys, me and millions of others are living right in the path of Hurricane Sandy which is about to make landfall in a few hours. Storm surge could be catastrophic to our coastal areas and the winds could take out power for millions. Please keep your American friends in your thoughts and prayers! Thanks! :'(

Well, I already made a very dumb mistake before even 1 race was done and threw away all my cash...  :( So, after last night, I don't think I will make any impact this season. I'm even thinking of getting myself relegated on purpose, in order to build up from scratch again next season. :-\

Giacomo, I see you are competing again, so my guess is you have survived Sandy?  :)
Is everything allright with you, family and friends?

I have to say the start of the season in 2a is pretty competitive, compared to the 3rd division. A lot more competitors per race, and of course riders with better assets. It's been fun and challenging so far. I hope to reach top 10 with one of my riders in Paris-Nice, but it will be pretty hard, I guess.

I hope you've come through the storm safely Giacomo. I wish you all the best through the hard times.

After two days of Paris-Nice I must say I'm quite satisfied. I've sent a relatively diverse squad with a strong team leader, some decent helpers and a youngster riding along for the experience. After two stages Zibung has gained me some points and himself some progress in the GC. After tonight I'm hoping for a top 3 gc place, after that it's consolidating and trying to hang on to it...

Thanks for your concern guys!

I fared a lot better than most here in NYC, but it will take years to get past the damageSandy caused. There is just so much destruction here its hard to put into words. I almost feel guilty because I only lost electricity. My house did OK, but only a couple o miles away on the ocean and inlets, there is just total destruction. More like tsunami then a hurricane.now we must try and recover, and it won't be easy.

I am playing cff, and feeling guilty for it, but as you can imagine my heart isn't in it. I'm doing it on my cell phone, as I have no power yet. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this difficult time. Again, thanks!

I celebrated my first 2nd division medal on the first stage of the Tirreno, with DeVlamynck in 3rd position :)

I guess KTeamRC seems to be the ultimate title contender in our division, but so far I like the challenging toughness of the 2nd division and I am pleased to see that I'm able to gain some points myself as well. Tactics and Domestiques seem to be a lot more important than in 3rd and 4th division, which brings a new dimension to the game for me.

Good luck everyone in the last stages of Tirreno.

Unfortunately, not too many managers in 2A are participating in this thread  ;)

Couple of lone stages, then the Giro is about to begin. Personally, I don't have high expectations, but I hope Hugo Segui can finish in top 10 overall. As a secondary goal, I want to see if my 21-year old talent Barendrecht will be able to finish with some points in one of the mountain stages.

Hey, I'm back! I've been working very long hours with the construction company I work for in the storm effected areas. I'm exhausted, but not nearly as tired as the people that have lost everything. So many lives changed forever. My hours have been cut-back some for now, so I have some time on my hands to catch-up with CFF.

I did poorly in those individual hill races, as I did last season to, so I can't really blame it on the long hours and only being able to play on my cell phone! ;D

I lost a lot of places in those races. I have to find a decent hill racer (among many things!) ::)

Good start for me in the Giro. Put two of my riders into the points in the first stage, which is nice. But truthfully, I don't have a shot at a decent GC position here, so I'm only going after some decent stage finishes.

I'm really impressed with our newcomers, Winter Is Coming and Triton! I don't know how you managed to be so good so fast, but congrats on not getting beaten down by the competition in 2a like so many of us have! I thought I was pretty good coming out of third division to here, but I've really been humbled since my arrival. :(

Good luck in the Giro everyone! 8)

Thank you Giacomo, I have to say I'm slightly surprised myself that I can maintain my position in top 10 until now. CatalunyaKricks is the newcomer who is outperforming us both, so we still have some catching up to do ;)

It promises to become an exiting finish this Giro.

With 2 stages to go, there are 3 cyclists within 1 minute. I think the winner will be one of them. From what I have seen, Matabuena is the best climber, but the worst sprinter of these 3. After the next stage, it will be easier to predict the outcome.

1    Kahraman Zibung   27   Triton   a hours 0 minutes 0 seconds
2    Andres Matabuena   24   CatalunyaKricks   a hours 0 minutes 23 seconds
3    Karl Bolwinkel   27   KTeamRC   a hours 0 minutes 51 seconds
4    Aitor Gallo   27   CretinosBoavista   a hours 1 minutes 59 seconds
5    Frédéric Moreno   24   LooL   a hours 2 minutes 25 seconds
6    Tyson Marbley   28   GMV_Cycling   a hours 2 minutes 45 seconds
7    Hugo Segui   29   WinterIsComing   a hours 2 minutes 53 seconds
8    Dénes Lovas   24   Budvarka   a hours 3 minutes 20 seconds
9    Jacob Moldrud   22   Calibre38   a hours 3 minutes 23 seconds
10    Zelig Tarbusch   27   WinterIsComing   a hours 3 minutes 35 seconds

I'm pretty happy myself with 2 of my cyclists in the top 10 and I hope I can maintain these positions until the end. Both of them got a medal in different stages as well, so I am really satisfied with this edition of the Giro d'Italia.

Hopefully this thread doesn't turn out to become a monologue  ;)

Anyone with high expectations for the Tour de France that is about to start this evening? I'm aiming for a position between 5-10 for Zelig Tarbusch, he is getting some help from some climbers who haven't really raced much this season. When a good GC is not realistic, I may switch leadership roles to get some points in the individual stages.

Andres Matabuena (CatalunyaCricks) is signed up as well, so he's a favourite I think, after his wins in the Giro and in Dauphiné.
Other remarkable cyclists who are already signed up are Ruben Torralba (alexinhos), Tyson Marbley (GMV, winner in Switzerland and 1st divison winner in TDF in season 1), Federic Moreno (LooL) and new arrival in our divison Taras Vlasov (tramontana), and silver climbers Goodvin (Calibre), LaFontaine and Radimov (both KTeamRC). Maybe I'm forgetting some good riders in this list?

Well, well, I finally had a podium finish! A third place in the sprint stage. I figured my sprinters would have to do well eventually and come up big, I'm just abit surprised it took this long. There are some great sprinters here! I'm glad to finally get a podium here in 2a, it was beginning to get embarrassing! :-[

Had a 15th in the TT which was pretty good to. As for the mountain stages - ah, not so great... ;D

Thank you, jolex.

I can imagine VanWijk will be on the podium. With bronze icons in sprint, cobble and hills, he seems made for the Eneco Tour. The homecrowd in Holland will give the extra motivation for sure :)

Earlier this season I had a cyclist with these 3 icons as well (Dietrich Puschel), but he didn't really fit my training schedule, so I sold him. He ended up in a rival team, Budvarka, and he's currently in 13th spot in GC.

I hope I don't get too sorry for it ;)

My Eneco didn't go to well, even though I had high hopes. I did better last season. My team is really built for this, as I'm heavy in the sprints with a couple of decent cobble riders, but it just didn't pan out. Now I have to hope I can do better in the tour of Germany, which I normally have done reasonably well in. I just picked up a good hill rider, which brought my team from 3 stars in the hills to 5, so I'm thinking I might have a winner in this rider! Geez, I hope! ::)

I can use some good riding from here on out to get into my usual 20th or so final standing!  :-[ ;D

One day I'd love to see what a top team in 2a team looks like Winter Is Coming. I mean the riders on your team and KTeamRC must have some awesome stats, or maybe your tactics are just really good, but whatever it is, I want some!

Well, I think my team is nowhere compared to KTeamRC, which is certainly the best team in our division in terms of both quality and depth. I have a few strong cyclists myself who do really well in some tours (Portugal for instance), a few nice talents who need training before they can really compete, and a few good helpers that can score good points in 3rd division, and turn out to be good helpers in 2nd.

I have to say I am surprised with the current standings, as I think there are teams with better cyclists than myself lower than me in the rankings. So I'm really outperforming my own expecations this year  :)

To give you some insight, here are the stats of this season's winner of the Volta a Portugal (he had climbing Training Camp bonus).

Hugo Segui   Age : 29   Wage : 1067
Stamina : 58   Sprint : 36   Climbing : 84
Flat : 68   Cobblestone : 13   Technique : 65
Downhill : 65   Hills : 78   Aggressiveness : 78
Time Trial : 28   Teamwork : 30   Experience : 56
Price :    Days left :    Stages raced : 23

Oh, and if I promote to 1st division, I'm always willing to be your mentor as well  ::)

Thanks for the feedback and the offer Johnny! :)

My team actually matches up pretty well with some of the better teams that I've been able to see. My sprinter numbers are especially pretty good. I see though that my teams technique is not that good overall. I'll have to improve on that. My problem could be more tactical than poor rider quality right now. I have to do better there I think to. But to be honest, I haven't been able to dedicate the time this season I would have liked because of all the hours spent working in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. That was a big problem for me. So let's see how I finish up now with more time to spend on the game.

After stage 3 of the Deutchland Tour, I have a rider in 2nd place! He should do well enough in stage 4 to stay high in the standings, but that last stage is likely to drop him. I have another rider in 10th right now, and he has the better chance of coming in high. We'll see! ::)

Winter is Coming - thanks also for your offer to mentor! I hope you get that promotion, it's looking pretty good right now... 8)

Ouch WinterIsComing! :o

You stole stage 5 from me in that final section! That one really hurt. :'(

I just picked Gailes up recently, and he has made an immediate impact for me in the flat-hill races. He lacks the big sprint for the finishes, but thats OK, I'm very satisfied with him so far. Finally, a great pick-up for TeamGiacomo! :)

I'm having a good Veulta so far. A first and second place finish, along with some other top 20 finishes has netted me some really nice points. Not much doing in the GC hunt however...

DeVlamynck did just enough to maintain his position in the leading group in the flat sections, and he worked his way up to the win in the last and toughest section. He was riding with 41115 tactic in a free role, by the way.

I'm hoping for a 6th place or better in tonight's Paris Bruxelles. Sponsor money is on the line.

I think your looking pretty good right now WinterIsComing.

With only a few races left, your looking good for at least 5th spot, which should certainly get you promoted. The real battle is behind you from 5th to 8th. That's going to be real scramble I think!

PS - Came in 10th in yesterdays Paris Bruxelles. Needed 6th for the sponsor money. That darn cobble section.... :'(

Well, I wasn´t too sure because I didn´t have really good riders for both the WC races, and lots of points can be gained in those 2 races. But with only Lombardia to go, I think I am safe now.

This season was really above all my expectations. I think I will be back in 2nd next season, as I don´t think I stand a chance in 1st. In fact, I think I am the only team out there without a 6-star cyclist, lol :)

A little failure might do you good. I wouldn't want all of this success going to your head! ;D

But seriously, you might have a rough time next season, only because your rise through the ranks was so fast. You just didn't have enough time to really train-up to the 1st. division level. But then again, you blew right threw us here in the 2nd., so who knows?

Hey Jolex, you too of course! Your comeback really was impressive. I just managed to get 4th place over you in Lombardia, but I´m sure your team will do better in 1st division than mine. Where were you in the first few weeks of this season? ;)

Well, a few of our favorite forum members have up and left us for the 1st division. We wish them luck.

But for those of us still mired in mediocrity and stuck here in 2a for yet another season, we'd like to welcome some of the recently promoted and exited-to-be-here teams just arriving in our fine division. So please, feel welcome, introduce yourselves and tell us all how your going to smoke us and get to the 1st division by the end of this season!( maybe I could learn something!) ;D

We're glad to have you aboard! :)

Yeesh, another tough season.  :-[

My team is getting better, but so are the other teams in this division! Points seem very hard to come by this season. I made some good moves on the transfer market, and my young riders have come a long way, but I'm struggling around 30th place right now, worse than I've done in previous seasons here. I'm going to need a strong finish to this season to break into the top 20, my usual place around here .

Anybody out there? :-\

Hold on Giacomo, I'm on my way back to 2nd division to bring more balance in this division ;) Would be nice if I could actually compete again in 2a, but of course it remains to be seen if that will be the case.

So keep your head up, I'll be back  8)

Good to hear from you, but sorry to hear your not doing to well.

Yeah, I was checking up on you and saw that you were struggling. So you are human after all, eh? ;D

I guess I shouldn't be in any rush to get promoted then, not that it's likely anytime soon. You dominated this division and to see you down at the bottom of 1a is downright scary! I mean, how good are those teams in 1a!? :o

Well, it'll be good to have you back here should you get demoted, however please take it easy on us, will you? ;)

Well, to say I have dominated last year is a bit of a overreaction, lol  ;D

I think I ended 4th and only secured the promotion spot in the last race I think, but 3 promotions in a row means your team isn't prepared for 1st division. I was surprised last year that I was able to achieve promotion in 2nd, to be honest, and I knew up front that my team wasn't ready to really compete in 1st.

But anyway, I learned a few things this year about my own team and about tactics, and will be ready to compete in 2nd division next season. I'm already looking forward to be competitive in more races than this season again. Hopefully my riders will catch up, so I will be ready for 1st division sooner or later :)

So another new season is here!

I'm quite frustrated at this point, but I'm going to hang in there because I really enjoy this game. This will be my 5th season in 2a, and in the first 4 seasons, I wound up in 20th, 21st, 23rd, 23rd places respectively. My team has certainly improved over the years, but not my standings. My first season here in 2a was my best showing, yet my team really wasn't very good. Now that my team is much better, my results are down. Go figure! I have a well rounded team that is capable of scoring points in all of the disciplines, but I know I'm lacking that great overall GC rider for the big tours. I'm searching. Anyone else in the same situation as me? (I hope I'm not alone! :-[)

But anyway, my frustrations aside, I'd love to hear from some of the new teams (and old ones to!) in our division, and their hopes and dreams for the upcoming season. So new teams, please introduce yourselves and good luck in the upcoming season!

Winter is Coming - I see you didn't make it back to our division. Well, I'm sorry to see that, although I'm also somewhat relieved you won't be here to kick our butts again! Good luck! ;)

You're right, I found myself back in 2C, hoping to settle in there as soon as possible. I already earned my first bronze medal tonight, so that's a good start.

Good luck to you too in 2A, we might compete again in 1a in some time :)

If you want some advice or anything in order to get some more juice in your team, feel free to PM me anytime. Not sure if I can be any help, but always willing to give some feedback.

I've found this division to be pretty tough since I've been here, as you can see by my post's above. I'm not sure I'll ever advance, but I'm having fun with it. Some teams seem to find it pretty easy however, so maybe you'll be one of them. I'm not at all anxious to get promoted though, because I've seen really strong teams flop when they promote. The 1st division must be really hard! :o

Anyway, good luck and keep on posting here and let us know how your making out... 8)

1st year in 2nd division... I'm afraid i went up too fast, ending up 4th in my only year in 3rd division. this means my team doesn't have money or level to really compete in 2nd division. I'm 30th but I wish I had stayed in 3rd and win the league and earn money.
the differnce between 2nd and 3rd is crazy.

Well, I think this is my 5th or 6th season in 2a, and I haven't finished higher than 20th place yet. and right now I'm floundering around in 25th place, so don't be to hard on yourself, 30th isn't to bad! You'll probably be passing me by pretty soon! Yeah, it's pretty tough here, at least for me. I just haven't found the "secret" to success in this game like the Big Boys in 1A know. My team keeps getting better but so does my competition! My scouting ability leaves alittle to be desired and my tactics to. It can be maddening for sure. Hey, I'm lucky team owners can't be fired, because I'm quite sure I would have been gone 2 or 3 seasons ago! ;D

So relax, your doing fine (at least compared to me!) :-[

Giacomo, you're still here to make all the new players feel at home in 2a, don't you?  ;)

I see the newly relegated Dutch teams 'Argonautjes (Telamon)' and 'Bos' are giving you a rough time, but don't worry, if you get to know them they are good guys  :P

If you're looking for some help, you can always ask me to be your mentor, as I see currently you are without a helping team.  8)

..Well Giacomo, one thing i can tell you by a fast look: you don't have any Silver cyclist, you only have bronze ones. I've checked and basically top-league teams all have some. I believe with 1-1,5 milion you can get a 29-30 yo one.

That's why I deliberately stopped competing about race 100 last season.  The team who took my place into 2nd division has a lonely 30 points so far, and looks likely to remain stagnant.  It's not about the money or winning a lowly 3rd division league, it's about being genuinely competitive when I do promote.

Best fortunes, I'm sure you're doing better than I would have been.

i will give 100% until Giro, then i guess i will stop and basically train and try to manage a lot of drafting and marketing: ending 22nd or 35th won't change a thing, instead i really need money, otherwise i won't ever grow in any way

The strategy to stop racing only works to prevent what would otherwise be a disastrous promotion.  You're already in Div2, so you might as well race and try to earn race revenue.  22th or 35th mightn't make any difference which division you'll be in next season, but 22th is a lot more points and more income.  Of course they'll have to be races where your cyclists will finish in the top 30 of course.

Try to buy some great ex-division 1 pointgainers during this season. They could be bought under 3M. With those riders you will be competitive, with your talents you can race only for the experience.

ps dont be afraid of buying 29-31 year olds. They will pay back their investment.

Too important, you see…

thanks telamon, for the advice. this is something i have done and i'm planning to do, except that i don't want to have many and i wan't to do it when i feel 'I'm ready, so that i can exploit all the remaining years of this elders.
A question, though: it seems that the decay of the elders is not that fast.. i mean a good 32-33yo can still be a 2nd division top, or not?

Older cyclists aren't the bargains they were two seasons ago.  I got mine for a song (although I wondered at the time whether I overpaid).  Now over a season later I've listed one for the price I brought him at and I'm getting multiple bids because he's significantly under market price.  Bronze star cyclists aged 31+ are being listed for million euro figures.  It's a price which simply can't be earned back in the time they have left (decent cyclists will hang on until 34 - up to 36 if silver, but at a lower division).

Can an ex-div1 30 something year old cyclist earn $3m+, just to get back to cost neutrality (don't forget wages, and race costs, and etc)?  Not to declare this as a blanket statement, but I'm seeing few able to come close.

A good one can for a couple of seasons (see FAQ http://www.cyclingforfun.org/smf/index.php/topic,1363.0.html for decay rates), but long enough to even pay back their million euro investments?  That's something I doubt.  But that's also something you'll need to calculate on a case by case basis, because there are exceptions to every rule.

Ive made a mistake a year ago: i raced competitive with my talents. That is very wrong imo. You have to train them and race with them as many as possible. Dont waste rest- trainings on them only for beng competitive.

Thats why I think buying older and very good riders for 3M isnt a waste. Maybe with their salary, race cost, prize money etc they will not pay back their investmnt individualy, but the profits can be found in your well trained talents.

With older ones you can gain experience in racing/tactics. They will give your team the needed points and money, and give you the promotion to a division above.

And that is what Im dong now. Sold some very good talents, bought 4-5 old big boys. This season is my first in which Im riding Hill and Hill/cobble races, for example. And this gives me the fun of racing, getting experience in those races,  and it gives my taents to possibility to train.

After the cobblesprint race, and the TT its good to see how the top-favourites are doing. Good TdF riders are usualy good climbers, but how did they perform after the first two races?
Abel Gonzales did very well, won more than 1,5 minutes on Aiello and 2 on Blumbergs for example. With a first place in Tirenno's MountainSprint race he probably will wear yellow tonight...

I am the coach of Supernutz. We just moved up from division 3, and I'm hoping to get some top-10s occasionally.

My rider Geraerts had a decent Paris-Nice, finishing 28th in the GC...with a nice 12th place on stage 2. Cobblestone / hiller Filatenkov has scored some points for us as well with a few top20 finishes.

We are nowhere near strong enough to really contend for victories. Training youth I suppose.

Stage 1 Tirreno Adriatico

Only one rider from Supernutz attacked the stage, the rest of the team sat back and waited for the mountain stages to come.

Salvatore Scotti stayed with the lead group until the last hill section, when a group of seven riders managed to pull away from the field. Scotti's poor descending skills lost him a further 20 seconds on the descent into Torino. He finished 32 seconds back, out of the points in 38th place.

Team captain Jack Pinkney finished 1 minute 52 seconds back as the field straggled in.

Mountains tomorrow! The Passo San Pellegrino will separate the men from the boys.

Stage 2:

Pinckney was able to stay in the leading group of climbers over the San Pellegrino pass. Young climber Donovan Omole managed to help Pinckney until the final slopes of the climb. He made it over the pass in the second group, 22 seconds behind the leaders, and coasted to the finish, his day done. On the descent, the lead group swelled to 57 riders, before 10 riders broke away to contest the intermediate sprint point.

The run-in to Rovereto was flat, and Pinckney finished at the tail end of the lead group (that had closed up again). 26th place is good for 13 points.

Pinckney is 1 minute 52 seconds back, and is no threat for the GC.

Stage 3 was a rerun of stage 2, as Pinckney stayed with the leading group throughout. No lost time, 23rd place on the day.

Still 1 minute 50 some seconds behind.

Stage 4: Viterbo - Marina di Grosseto

Pinckney, Lagreeze, and Scotti stayed with the leading group until the hills got serious. Scotti finished 28 seconds back in 74th place.

Pinckney lost another minute on the leaders, and stands in 32nd place, almost three minutes back.

One last mountain stage remains. Chiesa Valmalenco to Bormio. Two mountain passes (Aprica and Gavia) to make a statement by the Supernutz climbers.

Stage 5: Chiesa Valmalenco to Bormio

Disaster. Pinkney falls on the initial descent to the foot of the Aprica Pass. Supernutz managed to rally their leader and deliver him to the climbs in the second group, 22 seconds back. Pinckney and Omole managed to move up the groups over the Aprica, and by the foot of the Gavia, Pinkney was in 29th place, however he was almost a minute behind the leaders.

At the end of the day, Pinckney finished respectably, but Supernutz will rue the missed opportunity.

We have some things to learn, and also some things to improve on before we can be successful.

Gerben Vorm
Victor Dix

Any guess as to who wins today?

I ran for my GC leader as well...Antonov still lost 3 minutes. We definitely won't be GC challengers in this tour.

I hope to have my climbers near the front over the Passo di San Marco on stage 2.
Title: Re: Division 2a Lounge
Post by: dclark142002 on June 19, 2014, 05:21:26 am
At the base of the pass, Pinckney and Antonov were with the main field. Antonov managed to go over the top of the pass with the main group of climbers, but some 20 seconds behind the leaders.

All in all, not a bad day. Antonov finished 19th, 34 seconds back.

GC: Antonov - 82nd (3 minutes and 4 seconds back)

Tomorrow is stage 3:
A long bit of flat riding with a finish at Campitello Matese.  The 850m climb (average grade 6.4%) will hopefully help Antonov make up some time on the GC.

Well, that didn't work.

Supernutz fell behind the peloton by the first sprint check, and could not make up the time even on the climb to Campitello Matese.

The time trial was, as usual, a disaster...since none of my riders can ride a decent one.

We are now 7-8 minutes back on the GC.

As usual, still trying to tinker with tactics...but here, the issue is poor tactics and poor rider skill.

Ah, the start of a new season.

I still hope to finish at least one race in the top10 this year. Probably still isn't going to happen.

This is the year old tour stalwart Kaplan Antonov makes way for the Belgian hiller Pallieter Geraerts. The team is slowly transitioning away from an emphasis on pure climbers, to an emphasis on hilly-somethingers.

Right now, our team is riding for hill / cobble specialist Anatoly Filatenkov. The Russian continues to ride strong to top20 finishes, considering the weak support he receives.

I hope that 2c members also can write here :)
I'd like to share my feelings as someone who is first season in 2nd Division. Well, after first races a new manager can be a little bit shocked... :) (unless he has some superheroes bought during Eldorado time of 4rd Division). Level of the competition is much higher than in 3rd Division and race-winners from 3rd Division now can hardly reach TOP20, often being even out of TOP30. After 20-30 races I' ve decided to start rebuilding my team: +/- 30 y.o. riders, whose 90's skills let them win TOP10 in 3rd Div now must look for another employer and their place is taken by young talents, trained for future glory.
According to above, initial seasons in 2nd Division will be survival test for my team - but I'm looking on the bright side of CFF-life and I hope the better seasons are still to come :)

It is a very tough transition from 3rd division, where you are up against only a few serious teams...to the 2nd division, where almost everyone has a well developed team and enters the races.

I am usually ecstatic if I can get a rider in the top 10. So now I don't check every result.

Of course, that meant I almost missed that my hiller Geraerts won stage 5 of the Vuelta a Espana...completely out of the blue. I think the other teams were resting for the next big GC stage, that, or they just didn't care when he made his move.

This year, things are going along quite quietly. We sit in 24th place on the season, cobblers Filatenkov and Lagreeze amassing most of my high finishes so far this year.

Tough transition indeed.  Through the first 11 races, I have been able to score points in only two of them.  I didn't expect the team to do much in Div 2 and so far that expectation has bore itself out, but I am enjoying the challenge of building the team for the long haul.

Due to being out of the country, I missed the first two weeks of this season.

Had a bit of a training rethink, and am riding for my few specialists...

Filatenkov missed the meat of his season, and Scotti missed the first small tour. Ah well.
Title: Re: Division 2a Lounge
Post by: dclark142002 on April 30, 2015, 06:32:44 am
This will be the last time my big riders will see the big tours.

Next year we will focus on one day races, instead of wasting 10 stages for an attempt to win 1 or 2 races...I am going to rejig my schedule and pick the one day races for Scotti, Filatenkov, and Geraerts to go after, with full support.

I will still enter nearly every race, but lots of them will be with younger riders to gain experience.

Right now I'm sending my strongest teams into the tours, and I really have no great tour riders. This makes no sense. I am wasting form and health on stages I can't win (or even compete in).

Can't wait to update my scheduling spreadsheet and see who of the young riders will get some leader spots... :)

My 'GC' guy finished 37th in Paris-Nice, and 41st in the Tirreno.

Good riddance to poor riding.  8)

Filatenkov getting a few top10 finishes and a 3rd place podium finish in the Tour de Colonie.

First race we are favorites for is tomorrow:

Salvatore Scotti in Brabantse Pijl.
Title: Re: Division 2a Lounge

My team for Tirreno:
  • Eduardo Branquinho (helper).
  • Leif Rønningen (helper).  He is a hiller who finished 12th in stage 1.
  • Mike Benson (helper). He is a pure climber and should score in the last stage.
  • Zsolt Dragóner (leader).  He is the GC guy and currently sits in 13th after stage 2.  Finished 14th in stage 1 and 30th in stage 2.
  • Temur Veliev (helper).

So Dragoner ended up 28th for GC.  :(   With better tactics, he could have made the top 20

On the plus side, Benson won the last stage.   The tactics were better for that one.

Tirreno is a tough one and still only 5 races.

Maybe it's because that Tirreno is the tour i have raced the most at highest level. But I find this tour the most interesting. Because there are so many ways to have a good rider for this race.
There aren't an exact recipe for a good rider. You either loose a little on the hilly sprint stages or loose big on the last mountain stage. Or just loose very little on the 3 important stages  ;D

I can remember maybe 10 season ago a dutch team had a rider for this race with only 80 in mountain skill. Who finished on the podium a couple of times..

Indeed.   Great recall.

I could use some of that, for I can't even recall the tactics I used for my leader for today's Brabantse Pijl, and I'd be good if I can recall it because it got him on the podium.   ???

So far so good this season...in the top 20 (19th  :P) at this stage is the best we've done for a while.

Getting more top10 finishes, though only the one podium so far.

Highlight of the week was my boys showing the team name by keeping up with the leaders over the Rothenthume and then launching an audacious dual breakaway attempt (Geraerts and Waithe) that was a full 10 seconds clear of the field over the Kerenzerbera. Of course, my team in the Tour de Suisse doesn't have the climbers to seriously contest the field over the Fluelapass, so once we had tried for the intermediate sprint (but were caught by the peloton) we sat up and safely completed the stage 1.47 back of the leaders.

A glorious failure, if you will...but hey, time in front of the cameras for the team was worth something to the advertising men.

Stage 4 is almost our speed, though the sprint finish isn't what I've built the team to do. Maybe top 20 is a realistic goal.

My Team:

After the Time-Trial Leander is 3rd, Rey 7th and Ehapalu 11th. It went quite well as I expected as Ehapalu doesn't have Time-Trial. The current leader Peris I expect to drop off a lot in the last 2 stages as he doesn't even have bronze in mountain.

I am leading all the jerseys except for the most important one, the yellow jersey. Looks like Leander will be fighting Boit for it.

Peinador still going strong in 5th place in the GC

4th Stage of Paris Nice my riders finished 1st, 2nd and 9th. Leander now leads from Boit by 5 seconds. Should be an exciting last stage. Rey is now 6th overall and Ehalapu 9th. Again I lead all the jerseys except 1. The white jersey I am 2nd by 1 second.

Peinador up to 4th. I think he will finish either 4th or 5th overall. Great effort for a 27yo :)

Congrats with the win, Fontainbleau. 3 cyclists in the top 10 also gives you the lead in division 2a, good job.

Thanks. I didn't expect to do that well or to be leading the division. I only came into Paris-Nice with 197 points!
Leander ended up winning the yellow, polka dot and green jerseys. Won the team classification and came 2nd in the white jersey.

Congratulations with Peinador's 4th place. I was hoping Rey would catch him but he finished in the 1st group again.

My team for Tirreno Adriatico:

Patrocinio Rey (Leader)
Simon Leander (Free Role)
Vahur Ehapalu (Free Role)
Carl Gailes (Helper)
David Ray (Free Role)

Just the 1 change from Paris Nice. Gailes comes in as the helper. I am going to try and be greedy again and get Leander, Ehapalu and Rey in the top 10 in the GC. Rey is coming as leader instead of Leander even though the weather favours Leander. This time I will be disappointed if Ray doesn't win the white jersey as this is his best tour.

It has been a really good week for my team. Bob Winger was the best cobble/hiller andof won in Flandres, JP Grevisse was really strong in the hill classics as he won every race he was the team leader, includibgng AGR, La Fleche Wallone and Liege.

Now a few minor races, and then the Giro is coming next. Antequera will wake up again, I think  ;)

Yes. I am looking forward to the Giro very much ;)

My team for the Giro:

Patrocinio Rey (Leader)
Petro Gabaraev (Free Role)
Andre Gotz (Free Role)
Vahur Ehapalu (Helper)
Niels Algra (Free Role)

Rey will be fighting for pink. Expect a podium finish from him at the very least. Gabaraev and Gotz I hope that they will finish in the top 15 of the GC. Ehapalu job is to help Rey. Algra will try to finish in a high position in the white jersey competition.

My goal is to get a top 5 with Leonards Koks in the 'Fight for Pink'

Good start. Only Rey and Pass survived in the front group after the 4th sector out of the tour riders. They pulled out 1 minute and 13 seconds on a group of 8 tour riders that includes Koks

Unfortunately Koks could only stay in front in the first 2 sections and fell behind a bit too soon. Brasperinckx finished 7th as a domestique, which was a positive.

After the cobblestones hills stage (stage 7) the top 2, Pass and Rey, lost time to the chasers and now the top 6 are separated by less than 2 minutes. The last 3 stages should be strong for Rey but I don't think I will be able to make up the 54 seconds that he trails Pass by. I will give it a go though :)

I lost precious time in the hillstage, by setting Koks up with 13 ep. Stupid me. I recovered well in the cobble/hill stage though, with a 9th place and gaining time on every tour rider. Koks is now 4th and well on his way to reach top 5.

Actually Koks didn't gain on EVERY tour rider. Latorre finished 7th in the cobblestone hills stage finishing 8 seconds ahead of Koks and moving up to 10th in the GC.

Koks did do extremely well in the stage putting himself in contention for the podium in the GC. I still think Pass and Rey will finish 1st and 2nd as they are both strong climbers and sprinters compared to the other tour riders

Ah yeah, didn´t notice Latorre, you´re right.

Koks won´t be a danger for the top spots, his sprint isn´t good enough and I don´t think he will win time in the mountains. But he will try, of course.

Koks finished 3rd in the mountain stage and took time off everyone except for Rey. Yeah he is not a very good climber :P

I pick Koks for 3rd in the GC. In the 1st sprint stage Koks only lost time to Pass and Rey. If he can do that again you just need to beat Amor by more than 9 seconds in the last stage to get 3rd. Good luck :)

Good result in the Giro with Rey finishing 2nd and having 4 riders finishing in the top 15 in GC.

I have learnt not to listen to WinterIsComing as he fibs "Koks won´t be a danger for the top spots, his sprint isn´t good enough and I don´t think he will win time in the mountains." Koks came 3rd by over a minute from 4th :P

My team for Dauphine:

Andras Porubszki (Leader)
Petro Gabaraev (Free Role)
Patrocinio Rey (Helper)
Bill Wallyn (Free Role)
Bob Sheehan (Free Role)

Porubszki will be going for the win. Want a podium finish at worst. Gabaraev trying to finish in the points in the GC. Rey is coming as a helper but will only be useful in the mountain hill stages. Wallyn and Sheehan are 2 youngsters that are hoping for a good finish in the white jersey competition. Good luck to all.

And so, Koks in fact was not a danger for the top 2 spots ;) The team pulled of a good couple of stages in the Giro, too bad I ruined the hill stage and the first sprint race could've been better as well, but overall I am very please with the performance in the Giro :)

The Dauphiné didn't start well for me as I lost too much time in the first cobble race due to bad tactics. The next stages were good and we will try to gain a few spots in the final stage. We won't be able to endanger Vilnis Kreilis (27, AllioliTeam) for the win however. He is racing a very good Dauphiné.

I think I over estimated Porubszki or under estimated the help a decent domistique provides. He is no hope for a podium in the GC.

Koks is doing really well again. I predict he should be able to climb up to 4th in the GC. :)

Koks wins the last stage, finishing solo. Alas, the gaps were too small to make a big impact. Still, he climbs to a 5th place.

Aldrin (14) and Aluztiza (16) are in the top 20 as well. Impressive win by Kreiislis, while Stevens (only 26, 4th place) deserves a notification here as well!

Let's get ready for Suisse now.  :)

Congratulations on another win for Patricinio Rey, Fontainebleau. :)

Happy with the comeback from Aldrin in Suisse, great last stage for him, resulting in a podium spot.

Thanks. Congratulations to you too.

My team overall had a great last stage in Suisse. Rey won the stage going from 4th in the GC to 1st. Aldrin followed him in the stage to go from 7th in the GC to 3rd :)

I had 4 riders in the top 14 in the GC and with the last stage I took the lead in the polka dot jersey, green jersey, team classification and most importantly yellow jersey. I wasn't leading any of those classifications after the 4th stage :)

My team for the Tour:

Andre Gotz (Leader)
Petro Gabaraev (Free Role)
Andras Porubszki (Free Role)
Simon Leander (Helper)
Raul Cervantes (Free Role)

Gotz as leader hoping for at least a podium. Gabaraev and Porubszki going for points in the GC. Leander is going as a super domestique and it wouldn't surprise me if as a helper he finishes above Gabaraev and/or Porubszki. Cervantes is by best young climber so going for a good position in the white jersey.

Very disappointed with the 4th stage, 1st sprint stage. Gotz had a mechanical in the 1st section and Leander went off without him. Once Gotz lost touch with his helper he just kept going backwards. Dropped from 1st to 8th overall :(

What an exciting Tour of Portugal. Top 4 finished within 5 seconds. My rider Leander finished 4th in the GC. He had a mechanical in the 4th section of the last race. Without that mechanical he could have finished 1st in the GC. Made me miss out on a sponser :(

Yes, that was quite suspenseful. Sarsgaard finished 2nd on 3 seconds. If I played him as a race leader in 1st and 2nd stage, he would have had a good shot at winning the Tour of  Portugal. Peinador started as team leader, but I didn't have good tactics in the first stage, so I swapped. Peinador still finished 6th, riding last 3 stages in free role. So in the end, I'm very satisfied with the overall results in Portugal :)

Congratulations Winter on your victory in the Vuelta with Koks :)

I missed out on a sponser by one place as I had the wrong leader. I only put Gailes as leader for the last race :(
