Australia : U21-U23-Abs
« on: May 25, 2013, 01:32:05 pm »
I'd like to thank all those Australian managers who've taken an interest in the national team, and those international managers who've helped newer players in the game.

Anyway, as the new U23 manager for Australia, I have the simple policy of selecting the best cyclists for each race in question.  If your cyclist is among the best 9 for the race, he gets selected.  I hope this will encourage more players to choose an Australian cyclist (or two) for their team.

Below, I've detailed Australia's prospects for the upcoming season.
U23 NT Manager : Aurora Australis

U23 Main Squad (season 12)

SPRINTERS:
Australia has a solid group of sprinters in the U23 category, and a core of 21 year olds with decent prospects.  Australia is however currently lacking depth in the u21 team, with Janson currently playing a lonely hand for Aussie prospects.

Rank   Skill  Name     Age   Team
1   69.06   Kevin Alpin   21   Peruvienes
2   68.77   Royce Duffy   22   Antequera
3   68.57   Bobby Dardar   22   Shopitos_Cycling
4   68.42   Andrew Alpin   22   Shopitos_Cycling
5   68.17   Jake Carey   21   stainie

6   65.53   Alan Janson   20   loshombresdelmazo
17   55.17   Jack Jordan   20   TriniProCyclingTeam
18   54.75   Charles Myers   20   OrtoCycling
19   54.36   George Trautemberg   19   Compostela
20   54.02   Nate Segond   20   Todoterrenos

CLIMBERS:
Climbing is always a highly contested discipline, and Australia has many u23 cyclists to choose from.  However, this depth doesn't extend to the u21 ranks, and top quality 19 year olds could find themselves with plenty of opportunities.

Rank   Skill      Name          Age   Team
1   73.48   Allen Finn           22   Chavajimenez
2   72.97   Oliver Alpin   22   Szendici
3   71.85   Stewart Glass   22   Sacido
4   70.70   Merv Levin   21   drogopropulsados
5   70.47   Tyson Chamberlain   22   meloneros
6   70.23   Ethan Foxxe   21   drogopropulsados
7   69.98   Phil Vaughn   22   hushovd┤s
8   69.95   Tim Murphy   21   Sacido
9   69.54   Pete Power   22   Sacido
10   67.41   Patrick Chester   21   Legend
11   67.39   Oliver Power   21   TEAM_CHAVA

1   67.03   Bryn Wolf           20   LosOgrosDeTervueren
2   60.23   Danny Harper   20   NazcaCyclingTeam
3   58.70   Oliver Curry   20   Fortunato
4   58.51   Will Spiker   20   Legend
5   58.17   Jonnathan Battle   20   Insuperable

COBBLERS:
Australia's talent is thin like a balding man's head.  Kewell looks set to lead Australia's charge for 2 seasons, but he's going to need to few assistants.  Expect a few u21 cyclists in the u23 team.

Rank   Skill     Name    Age   Team
1   65.84   Royce Duffy   22   Antequera
2   65.68   Tim Kewell   21   TerrorDelCaos
3   61.48   Craig Jefferson   21   Pontiac
4   59.50   John Mitchum   22   Insuperable

5   56.44   Nate Segond   20   Todoterrenos
6   56.14   Neil Emme   20   Monster
12   50.38   Gus Huling   20   LaFieraChurretes

HILLERS:
Australia has two chargers for the u23 team, plus plenty of support.  The u21 ranks also looks strong, with Finley set to feature on any hills.

Rank   Skill        Name     Age   Team
1   73.72   Colin Huling   22   Fallit_Imago
2   71.35   David Mayne   22   Free Cyclist
3   66.96   Norman Footman   22   KonaFire
4   66.76   Sean Norris   21   The_Longuis
5   66.59   Donovan Glass   21   bhburgos2016

6   66.31   Aaron Finley   20   Aurora_Australis
11   63.33   Gus Huling   20   LaFieraChurretes
16   61.60   Les Kewell   20   milanezen
17   60.85   Todd Whisman   20   Aurora_Australis
18   60.03   Oliver Curry   20   Fortunato
19   58.66   Jake Norwood   20   Aurora_Australis
21   58.08   Norm Hunter   20   KonaFire
22   57.73   Arnold Chester   20   Insuperable

TIME TRIALERS:
Australia has a couple of talents who can do well.  With limited depth in the squad, oportunities exist for 19 year old cyclists to make the u23 team.

Rank   Skill        Name     Age   Team
1   73.34   Virgil Gailes   22   Spiaggia
2   70.85   Ross Dixon   21   SonicCycling
3   67.31   Bud Rooney   21   sanzoteam
4   57.84   Dave Pinkney   22   Dopping_Team

8   55.88   Charles Myers   20   OrtoCycling
13   51.83   Desmond Trautemberg   20   Desdeatraslaliderato
15   49.59   Vince Judd   19   michaelshumacher

HILL-SPRINTERS:
Australia has several reasonable talents, but depth is an issue.  Australia needs more options if we're going to be competitive any-time soon.

Rank   Skill       Name       Age   Team
1   68.57   Bobby Dardar   22   Shopitos_Cycling
2   64.94   Andrew Alpin   22   Shopitos_Cycling
3   64.68   Royce Duffy   22   Antequera
4   64.09   Sean Norris   21   The_Longuis
5   62.86   Norman Footman   22   KonaFire

8   57.87   Jack Jordan   20   TriniProCyclingTeam
10   57.69   Aaron Finley   20   Aurora_Australis
16   54.76   Norm Hunter   20   KonaFire
17   53.62   Eric Lust   20   Todos_los_ahorcados
18   53.33   Vinnie Malone   20   PENEBANK
22   51.25   Gilbert Duffy   19   SOLPICO

MOUNTAIN-SPRINTERS:
Simply put, there's plenty of opportunities for decent 19 year old cyclists to make the u23 team.

Rank   Skill    Name      Age   Team
1   61.84   Oliver Power   21   TEAM_CHAVA
2   61.50   Martin Farmer   22   CycleNormand
3   56.95   Kevin Alpin   21   Peruvienes

9   53.01   Neil Emme   20   Monster
13   49.78   Sean Frances   20   Jinhua
18   44.71   Gilbert Duffy   19   SOLPICO
19   43.81   Gaynor Carey   19   EUSKALTELBAI

COBBLE-HILLERS:
Australia currently has one ok option per year group.  Many opportunities available for u21 cyclists.

Rank   Skill    Name      Age   Team
1   65.03   David Mayne   22   Free Cyclist
2   62.99   Denis Bookout   21   Pants
3   59.40   Norman Footman   22   KonaFire

4   59.14   Gus Huling   20   LaFieraChurretes
13   53.24   Arnold Chester   20   Insuperable
15   52.25   Jake Norwood   20   Aurora_Australis
16   52.11   Lenny Mitchum   20   Aurora_Australis

FLAT-HILLERS:
Australia has a few options, with the 21 year olds (& 20 year old Whisman) expecting to lead for the next couple of seasons.  Still, opportunities available for talented u21 year olds.

Rank   Skill    Name     Age   Team
1   65.39   Norman Footman   22   KonaFire
2   64.95   Sean Norris   21   The_Longuis
3   64.14   Mannie Robinson   21   Aurora_Australis
4   63.37   Bobby Dardar   22   Shopitos_Cycling

5   62.05   Todd Whisman   20   Aurora_Australis
9   58.96   Gus Huling   20   LaFieraChurretes
15   55.31   Norm Hunter   20   KonaFire
16   55.24   Royce Simpson   20   Aurora_Australis

CLIMB-TIME TRIALERS
Australia has a few moderate prospects, but a specialist would find themselves leading the charge in this category.

Rank   Skill   Name   Age   Team
1   62.49   Tim Murphy   21   Sacido
2   60.47   Merv Levin   21   drogopropulsados
3   60.31   Ethan Foxxe   21   drogopropulsados
4   60.18   Jasper Tweed   21   Leonesa

8   57.42   Danny Harper   20   NazcaCyclingTeam
16   55.05   Desmond Trautemberg   20   Desdeatraslaliderato

So there you are, Australia's main U23 cyclists for season 12.  There's plenty of opportunities for 19 year olds to make the squad, some categories offering promotion start into the u23 team.  If you think you can recruit a cyclist to fill a vacancy, then please, send your u23 scout down to Australia's shores.

Hello Australis.

I wondered whether you could get a list up with the Australian talent for hills-mountain stages as my rider Oliver Curry seems to quite good in those.

Thx RC.  It's a pity I don't know Spanish, because it means I can't share this with our Spanish speaking friends here (hopefully one of the other Aussie teamed players can).

Hello Australis.

I wondered whether you could get a list up with the Australian talent for hills-mountain stages as my rider Oliver Curry seems to quite good in those.
According to calculations, the best Aussie cyclists in each age group are:

52.27 Ben Marbley 19   Insuperable
55.14 Oliver Curry   20   Fortunato
60.83 Donovan Glass   21 bhburgos2016
67.85 Stewart Glass   22  Sacido

But 3 of these cyclists scored higher on both mountain & hills separately, with the fourth averaging higher; so these talents should be higher than calculated.

Edit:  Under new & improved calculations.
54.10 Ben Marbley 19   Insuperable
57.24 Oliver Curry   20   Fortunato
62.12 Donovan Glass   21 bhburgos2016
68.66 Stewart Glass   22  Sacido

Cyclists From Inactive Teams

As manager of the u23 team, I which to inform all those who train Aussie cyclists, I'm formally making the decision not to select any u23 cyclist from an inactive team, even if it reduces the chances of scoring points in some races.

I feel that I'd like to allow those who train Aussie cyclists to have the fullest of opportunities to see their Aussie cyclists perform for the U23 squad, and hope managers will appreciate this.  And thankyou to everybody who all who've taken an interest in the Aussie team.

If you're looking to start or restart in CFF, can you think of a better location to imagine your team to be?
Why not choose Australia and Cairns as the location for your team.

Very nice result last race. More than half your points this season in one race.

I used the same tactics as normal, it just suited the Aussie cyclists I guess.  Only race with any mountains this season, plus most also had decent hills/cobbles.

Australia simply doesn't have a great deal of talent currently.  Bad news for scoring NT points, but good news for anybody with talented Aussie cyclists, because they'll gain more opportunities at NT races.

Btw: Thx for your interest in the Aussie team.

I have always had a fondness for Australia. Four of my first and at that time best talents were Australians. Now 2 of em are silver hillers. Cliff Finley and Norman Holland, although Holland has a brilliant name :P Plus i think you are doing an excellent job in promoting Australian cycling within CFF.

I'd like to thank all those managers who've taken an interest in the Aussie team; and also to Pantani, Sjiz, Telamon, & Thorin for the vast knowledge they introduced into CFF's community.

Below, I've detailed Australia's prospects for the upcoming season.
U23 NT Manager : Aurora Australis

U23 Main Squad (season 13)

SPRINTERS:
Team Prospects:
   Team Depth:
Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   73.67   Kevin Alpin   22   Peruvienes
2   72.22   Jake Carey   22   stainie
3   71.82   Colin Duncan   22   CTGalaxy
4   70.61   Alan Janson   21   loshombresdelmazo

8   63.19   Fraser Walkins   20   stainie
9   62.57   Angus Fevola   20   Chinchetas
11   60.81   George Trautemberg   20   IKIBASQUE

Australia's sprinters need to shine this season, because most talents are 22 and will be leaving the u23 squad at the end of this season.  Lots of opportunities for new talent to make the squad next season.

CLIMBERS:
Team Prospects:
   Team Depth:

Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   75.56   Merv Levin   22   drogopropulsados
2   75.01   Tim Murphy   22   Sacido
3   74.52   Ethan Foxxe   22   drogopropulsados
4   72.85   Oliver Power   22   TEAM_CHAVA
5   72.45   Bryn Wolf   21   LosOgrosDeTervueren
6   70.64   Patrick Chester   22   Legend
7   70.18   Tod Garlick   22   Sacido
10   66.86   Danny Harper   21   AragonStars

14   65.11   Phil Blair   20   CCT
17   62.84   Ben Marbley   20   Insuperable
20   62.02   Alex Warrenburg   20   LDU_PRO_TEAM
28   60.39   Wilt Odom   20   BalgorsBoys

Eight of the top ten are 22 year olds.  Expect good points this season from our climbers.

COBBLE-HILLERS:
Team Prospects:
   Team Depth:

Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   68.34   Denis Bookout   22   Pants
2   63.77   Gus Huling   21   LaFieraChurretes

10   58.18   Ross Iverson   20   Insuperable
11   58.03   Kobe Goodman   20   Desdeatraslaliderato

Cobble/Hills is always depth challenged, so hopefully Bookout has a chance for points.  Door's open for a fresh specialist cob/hill talent to take the leader's position once Bookout leaves.

FLAT-HILLERS:
Team Prospects:
   Team Depth:

Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   70.29   Mannie Robinson   22   Aurora_Australis
2   67.70   Todd Whisman   21   Aurora_Australis
3   67.58   Sean Norris   22   The_Longuis

10   58.35   Gerraint Dixon   20   milanezen
11   58.18   Buck Hoffman   20   Shamrock

Only worry here is race 3 is more a short flat stage than flat-hillers stage.

   TIME TRIALERS:
Team Prospects:
   Team Depth:
Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   76.72   Ross Dixon   22   SonicCycling
2   72.20   Bud Rooney   22   sanzoteam
3   67.67   Larry Acree   21   Dopping_Team

7   59.61   Gordon Clapton   20   iBanesto

Nine TTers will be selected.  There's room for at least four, if not five 19 year old TTers to make the u23 squad.  If you're training TT, then send your scout down to Australia.

COBBLERS:
Team Prospects:
   Team Depth:

Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   69.71   Tim Kewell   22   TerrorDelCaos
2   63.81   Alex Jordan   22   ZBT

5   59.30   Fraser Walkins   20   stainie

Second last race of the season, if a cobbling team wants their 19 year olds to race in a NT race, then have your scout hunt for an Aussie.

These aren't featuring in u23 NT races this season.  Here's a quick glance at who Australia's best are, plus who will be available next season.

If you want top climbing talent, can you think of a better development location?
Why not choose Australia and Launceston as the location for your u23 future climbing stars.

I'd like to thank all those managers who've taken an interest in the Aussie team; and also to all the non-native speakers who've kept the English forum active.

Below, I've detailed Australia's prospects for the upcoming season.
U23 NT Manager : Aurora Australis

U23 Main Squad (season 14)

SPRINTERS:
Team Prospects:
Team Depth:
Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   74.68   Alan Janson   22   loshombresdelmazo
2   70.38   Fraser Walkins   21   stainie
3   67.40   Angus Fevola   21   Chinchetas
6   64.22   George Trautemberg   21   KTeamRC
8   57.78   Robbie Finley   20   SwiftRacing

Janson only needs one domestique to stay with him to sneak into the points, fortunately.

CLIMBERS:
Team Prospects:
Team Depth:
Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   76.71   Bryn Wolf   22   LosOgrosDeTervueren
2   71.38   Phil Blair   21   CCT
3   71.08   Danny Harper   22   Patatˇn
4   70.04   Jonnathan Battle   22   Insuperable
5   68.19   Ben Marbley   21   Insuperable

24   61.12   Ben Miller   20   trekteam
36   56.63   Ned Jameson   19   BetisCFF

Not many cyclists to choose from, but at least there's quality.

COBBLERS:
Team Prospects:
Team Depth:
Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   65.26   Nate Segond   22   Todoterrenos
2   63.10   Fraser Walkins   21   stainie
12   53.96   Benjamin Steele   20   canmarge

I seriously need to check if my calculations are corrct here :(

HILLERS:
Team Prospects:
Team Depth:
Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   76.28   Aaron Finley   22   Aurora_Australis

8   69.96   Norm Hunter   22   KonaFire
9   69.56   Buck Hoffman   21   Melonazo
10   68.46   Andy Middleton   22   Teamoz
11   68.20   Dudley Lungby   20   CandasuTeam
14   65.55   Gerraint Dixon   21   milanezen
15   64.69   Kobe Goodman   21   Desdeatraslaliderato
16   64.53   Noel Emme   20   RealityCyclists
20   62.60   Alex Simpson   20   Mtbikers

58   52.45   Rick Green   19   Aurora_Australis
60   51.24   Bobby Friend   19   Easyriders

Anybody need a spare hiller?  This is our best season.  Ideally, Finley wanted more hills & another 50 kms, but no matter.  Kewell could be upset team leader if weather's hot.  Also a few cool younger cyclists coming along; I'm going to go and have a second look at Lungby.

TIME TRIALERS:
Team Prospects:
Team Depth:
Rank   Skill Score   Name   Age   Team
1   73.52   Larry Acree   22   Dopping_Team

6   59.55   Colin Miller   20   NazcaCyclingTeam
9   58.52   George Jameson   20   Cyclorom
10   58.00   Tim Tweed   20   OY3
14   57.58   Bud Dardar   20   NazcaCyclingTeam

18   56.45   Walt Friess   20   specializedteam
20   55.33   Gerraint Lucas   20   NazcaCyclingTeam

You have to be the best in TT to have a hope.  Wings & prayer don't work.  Hopefully one of the 20 year olds can develop quickly.

Poor Jordon, having Finley as his main domestique into a sprint.

14   53.67   Frank Pinkney   20   Aurora_Australis
15   53.44   Alex Simpson   20   Mtbikers

You can make a difference

For small CFF nations like Australia, you can make a massive difference.  We aren't talking about winning or losing; we're talking the difference between being competitive, and making up the numbers.

Just how much difference can you make?

Well, this season's u23 hilling talents should give you an idea.  Of the 15 featured hillers, the following cyclists started their careers in my team.
Aaron Finley, Todd Whisman, Jake Norwood, Lenny Mitchum, Norm Hunter, Andy Middleton, Gerraint Dixon & Noel Emme.

Can you imagine Australia's team without these cyclists?  You can make a real difference too, simply by letting your international scout head down to Australia.
