Janson crack!
Only because of his excellent NT manager of course, without him Janson is just an average cyclist   :))
Just kidding^^
Train him well, Thorin, and he will get more points for Australia u23 next season !

STAGE 9 : COBBLESTONES

After the victory in Paris-Roubaix 2016 of Australian cyclist Mat Hayman, the cobblestones are popular in Australia too.
I had my doubts about selecting 2 helpers because of the "activity" in their teams, but the teamcaptain needs good helpers so they are selected.
The teamcaptain is way better then the other Australian cyclists and he was 2 seasons ago in exact the same race (u21 NT Delta Profronde Zeeland) already 9th. So I expect and hope he will score points in this u23 NT race also.

Australia u23 NT selection =
teamcaptain :
Duke Pinkney (22) RackhamTeam
24 races* (*= this season in his team), was 2 seasons ago 9th in the same race
helpers :
Alex Steele (22) Esperance
18 races*
Chester McClure (22) RIOJANITOS
0 races* and 0 experience  :-[ well, he is hopefully a good helper and perhaps this selection encourages his manager to let him gain xp in his team
Adrian Fluss (21) Clerville
9 races* and a transferfree cyclist, weird, selected because the teamcaptain needs good helpers and next season he will be one of the best Australian cobblestone-cyclists
Neil Harper (21) Canes
20 races*, last season 5th in u21 NT race (Scheldeprijs)
xp / semi-helper :
Ken Emerton (20) Bolaverde
20 races* and this season he was 3rd in u21 NT cobble-hills-race with some flat in it
xp :
Paul Garza (22) Noldor
32 races*, was 2 seasons ago 4th in u21NT flat-climb-hills-race and he will be selected next week also
Angus Finn (22) escartines_neverdie
39 races*, also awarded with a xp selection and this good climbhills-talent will be selected next week also
Walter Hoffman (21) Team_Boogie_Woogie
47 races* for this awsome TT-talent, last season 3rd in the u21 NT time trial, for sure he deserves a xp selection

Thanks, surprising it went exactly the way I planned this very good race, but Australia u23 has a Dutch coach, so I knew this race in Holland well^^

STAGE 10 : FINAL STAGE

Objective :
Already achieved, Australia u23 went up from place 17 to place 11 since I started halfway the season as u23 NT coach.
And of course the main objective that Australia had a selection in the past 4 races and this race is also achieved.

The final stage :
Unfortunatly I have not the possibillity to calculate the exact GV of this race, so it is just like the previous races a bit of gambling, guessing and estimating who to select and how the tactics will be.

This race seems more difficult.
Australia has an awsome climbhill-specialist who is in the CFF u23 Dream Team, too bad he is not very suited for this race because of his low flat. I suppose that will bring down his GV. But he will be the team captain anyway and hopefully he can score some points, although points are not very important anymore and the chance that this race will be a tactical failure is extreme high because I don t have a usefull NT evaluator and I m just using the fox-evaluator in my brain, lol. And it is possible that he is too far behind after the first 3 sections because of his low flat, hopefully he has good helpers but the chance they are going too fast (or too slow) is high. No risk, no glory, is often my tactical motto^^.

Also I selected some very promising younger cyclists, I think some of them are almost as good (or just as good, who knows^^) as most 22yo cyclists and I estimate that they will be very good cyclists in such a race in the future and  they are probably usefull as helpers in the flat sections also and they can use the xp.

Most cyclists will be the helpers of the team captain, but also some cyclists will ride in a free roll. No expectations that they will score points, but it seems to me a good opportunity to experiment like that in this last stage, where there is nothing at stake.
And all selected cyclists asked me to give them an update from time to time of the elite NT race, obvious that tomorrow the Australian focus will be on that race.

Australia u23 NT selection =

Paul Garza (22) Noldor
Angus Finn (22) escartines_neverdie
Lance Waithe (22) magereYoghurt
Sebastian Sandfort (22) KONEX
David Jameson (22) wingchun
Brendan Iverson (21) Antequera
Charlie Mitchell (21) Agolpede
Wilt Burton (20) PipiolosTeam
Kendall Madsen (20) PipiolosTeam

Great job winning the last stage, Vos!
thanks, a bit unexpected  :)
Only helper Jameson did a good job on the flat sections, maybe because of his wind-icon. I should have given other helpers more energiepoints there. But a better result then to win the race is ofcourse not possible^^
Jameson scores also points (16th), and Finn in a free role finishes as 20th.

Australia u23 now in the top 10.

STAGE 1 : LONG DISTANCE MOUNTAIN TT

Australia u23 has just one cyclist who is good enough to score points in stage 1, was my opinion before the race started.
And that is Callum Caan because he was 19th two seasons ago in a shorter mountain TT u21 NT race ( the same as TdF stage 8 ).

In this race his very good stamina (and possible very good training of his manager) was the cause for a way better result ; 11th  :)

Almost all other cyclists were selected for the experience. Next time I post the selection in time.

Caan nicely drove his way upfront, first points are on the board. But what is this about the Danish mountain-TT breeding program?  ;)
