Season 33, Stage 01: GP Sallanches (Hills)

As always, the elite NT starts off with a hill race. This season, it's a short but explosive race, only 90kms with just some little flat sections in a pure hill profile. We are in the midst of the Alps, not far from Chamonix and the Mont Blanc.

In 1964 and in 1980, Sallanches featured the World Championships. In 1964, Dutchman Jan Janssen was the winner, in 1980, it was Bernard Hinault who won the race at home soil. (See picture beneath)

We are blessed with a few really strong hillers, and of course Mr. World Champion himself, Kieran Donaldson, will be at the start of this race as well. He'll get some much needed help from cyclists like Zack Frances, Keith Curry and highflying talent Baron Friend, who reached his golden status last season, while he was still 27 years old.

Our goal is to get on the podium, our ambition is to win the race. Let's see what we can achieve in the first race of the season.

Go go Australia :)

Que pasa? Do we have new managers in Australia? Franky and Chris? What is the name of their teams?

Lets celebrate this excellent news with a kangaroo barbecue!

Haha Telamon, you didn't read the end of last season's 'ABS' topic?

Franky and Chris are a bunch of British petty criminals, seeking asylum in Australia. Rumor goes that Chris' brother was set on a boat one shipment earlier and he stranded in the 4th division last season with a new team. Franky and Chris kept their 1st division status for the moment. I'm sure you'll know them and will get along pretty well.  8)

270 points in the first race, which is not bad, but still I had hoped for a bit more than a 4th place for Donaldson actually.

However, losing to a crack like Jean Paul Grevisse can always happen.  ::)  8) French team overall has a great start of the season, collecting 570 points with 4 cyclists in points.

PS> Chris, Franky, someone should tell Asturalia that the new season already begun. He hasn't logged in since the 9th of June.  ???

Risky tactics, great comeback. Happy with the silver medal.  :)
Holland and France lead the way so far, we are hanging in there with a 3rd place.

Next stop, flat sprint with a little bump.

Cheers.  8)

Yeah, Hunter is really great, his 3rd NT win in a row (season 31-32-33). His manager hasn't logged in since 18th of June though, so maybe he will hit the free market later this season???

The Dutch team takes profit of a strong TT generation to strenghten their leading position. After a few relatively weak seasons, the Dutch seem to be back on track for the Gold medal.

Let's see what Earl Gatson, Bob Winger and Phil Lee can do next week on the cobbled hills. Last season, Gatson won and the other 2 raced to points (14th and 16th).

To finish second with a cyclist like Gatson, surely feels like losing.  :-\

I had higher hopes after section 4, where Bob Winger was in the same group as team leader Gatson, but after 265 kilometers in the cold, Joris Goessinnen's legs were slightly better. His weather icon most likely was the decider. Still, a good result with Gatson and Winger both in the points, and we climb to 2nd place. The Netherlands is already out of sight, I guess, so we will have to settle for silver once again.

Davici is having a real strong season with the Netherlands, who are back in the first spot after a few seasons in which they didn't really live up to the expectations.
