Australia: U23 Season 33
« on: June 17, 2017, 12:45:38 pm »
For all of those immigrating to Australia in season 33, I welcome you, and welcome back our ongoing residents.  I'll have something about the U23 team tomorrow, but first I'll show those joining us what you can see in Australia.  The below pic was taken by me this week.  It's of the footbridge I use to get to work in Brisbane.

Btw: If you have this icon, feel welcome to join team Australia.

thx WiC
Race 1

Selections
Name   Team   Age
Abraham Chapman   maneblussers   22
Cody Dowden   Casualflap   22
Nick Hines   CC_MANICOMICOS   22
Nate Simpson   TeamRolf   21
Ted Foxxe   Argonautjes   21
Dylan McCabe   ThorBoassonArvesen   21
Nate Fevola   vakteam   21
William Owen   Argonautjes   21
Gary Thomas   Cachuflines   20

Prospects
My Per Alsaker (u23 Norway) GV is more than 4 GV better than our best (and he has had hills training for last season), so I don't think so.  Three are selected just in case, the others are for experience and manager encouragement.

Results
As expected our best was: 23rd   Nick Hines

Nick Hines leader in climbing GV list!!  ;D ;D

The bad thing is: Nick is not my best climber, and none of my kids are in any Dream Team...  :(

I'm kinda kicking that I didn't keep him.  As it turns out, a season of hills training would have helped with the u23 campaign.

Yep, definitely... He is going to train hills a bit, but not enough for getting him to a desired level (70 or so). We will see

Only if that's what your team is training, because it's not going to enough difference to the u23 campaign at this stage.

My training plan is based on Ken Shields, so...now i'm training downhill, later I will start with flat and then tec, so, I won't start with hills until 3-4 seasons...

When I signed Hines, my plan was to create a good climb helper for Ken.

yes !  :)

In previous season just 1, a very bad climber but he was in the U23 Dream Team as flat-climber on nr10.
( and he was in the U23 flat climb list of the Australian NT evaluator just 15th )

This season :

Benjamin Wade, nr 7 TT (you probably know him^^)
Eric Lungby, nr 1 hills --> As flat hills specialist as you know, he is awsome. Too bad no suited races for him this season, with more luck in the racing scedule he could be U23 world champion. But of course he can score points too in a pure hills-race (race 3).
Elgin Bird, nr 7 hills
Alex Levin, nr 5 sprint
Abraham Chapman, nr 4 climbing and nr 9 tour cyclist.

So it looks this generation is better then the previous, as I expected. The racing scedule could be way better, that is a pitty for AA.
But you were as U21 NT manager 4th with this generation, so AA will not end as last in the ranking by countries and he has a few good talents to race with. Always more fun then a bad generation as in last season.

edit ; this is just my opinion of course.

Yeah, talent is slightly better than last season, schedule not ideal.  Benjamin Wade is hill TTer.  Alex Levin is sprint-hiller, we'll see of #8 has the hills right  :-\   Plus Nick Hines no longer has that great downhill advantage.  Need to get lots of points out of Abraham Chapman, downhill is a slight liability.  Doesn't matter, we'll see what happens.  And next season is where we should shine with the correct schedule (see TT list :)) )

Thanks for the nice lists, and indeed, I didnt realize that yet, but the next U23 generation looks good.  8)
And good to see Baron Morrison (21yo) is no longer a free cyclist, he has a new manager.
