Australia: U23 Season 34
« on: August 26, 2017, 11:26:28 am »
Thanks for electing me as Australia's new U23 coach.

Here are the 'start-of-the-season GV Lists'.  I will try to update them on a regular basis.

I haven't found the time to make an analysis of the quality and depth of the U23 riders pool, but I'm excited to work with the younger generation after I have been 6 seasons with the elite cyclists.

Cheers, and make sure you enjoy the weekend :)

You're forgetting Nate Simpson as #3 climber.

5 in total, almost the same as the number of Dutch riders.

If only the u21 calendar was the u23 one, Baron Morrison would have been a good possibility to be u23 champion.

Thanks, I must have overlooked him. It's edited now. :)

Yes, he would possibly have been our best shot if the calendar was a bit more friendly. However, we have a few good (hill-)climbers who can surprise. Don't know anything about this generation though, so it's hard for me to determine at this point.

Season 34, Stage 01: 'L Alpe d'Huez'

We kick off the season with an individual Time Trial at the infamous Alpe d'Huez. With its hairpin bends, it's an iconic climb which we all know from the Tour de France. Our U23 will try to get us on the scoreboard right from the start of this season's campaign. I have good hopes that at least Nate Fevola is able to score some points. There is no reference yet, as the U21 didn't have a Mountain TT on their calendar in S32.

Weather Forecast:

Our selection:
1. Nate Fevola (22) - vakteam
2. Gary Thomas (21) - Cachuflines
3. William Owen (22) - Argonautjes
4. Eric Hamilton (22) - Leones_Del_Sur
5. Gary Nelson (21) - AsMonacoFootballClub
6. Ben Embley (22) - TeamRolf *
7. Sean Bradley (21) - GMV_Cycling
8. Nate Simpson (22) - TeamRolf *
9. Darvin Alpin (20) - Guapis

* = Climate Bonus

After a very slow start, Fevola works his way up (section 1 31st - s2 22nd - s3 15th - s4 8th) the scoreboard and finishes 5th at 'l Alpe D'Huez.

It's a pity Alpe d'Huez is only 15,5 kms, if it would be double that length, he would have won  ;)

Anyway, an 'okay' start of this season's U23 campaign, getting us 180 points. It gets us on the board and there isn't a country that really stands out in this race and creating a huge gap, as has happened before in Time Trials.

So far a 5th, 5th, 6th and a 6th place in the stages, which brings us to a 5th place in general after 4 stages. At least we are pretty consistent  ::)

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to make good previews and reviews. To try and make it up with you, here are the updated U23-lists.  ;)

Season 34, After Race 040.

Australia has got 161 U23 cyclists.
