Güéjar Sierra
RACE 1 : Sierra Nevada  30ºC

Preview season 39 :
Two seasons ago this generation was 4th at the u21 ; back then they scored 1.805 points.
No chance of becoming world champion, because Denmark will probably be the favorite.
At the u21 two seasons ago Denmark was the best with a huge amount of points ; 4.030

Of course Australia u23 is going to compete to finish as high as possible.
And perhaps also competing for the individual u23 world championship with Nick Owens.
That might not be a realistic goal, because Nick Owens finished just once in the top 10, a 4th place in a u21 climbhills race.
But I'm going to try.  :)

Race 1 :
In the long distance mountain time trial of today, Nick Owens might be the best of Australia u23.
It would be great if he can score points here already.
Other contenders could be Power and Carey, perhaps they are as good as Owens (or even better, but not according to my GV-calculation).
I really have no clue if these 3 cyclists are good enough to score points, we will see.

Some other "suited" cyclists are selected too, just in case, and they can use the experience.
Real xp-cyclists are also selected ; Pierre (hills), Warrenburg (flat-TT) and the 19yo of the latest draft, Odom (climb).

Australia u23 selection :

Nick Owens (22) Sacido
Isaac Carey (22) ItaliaCycling
Daley Power (22) Tramontana_
Brent Lindsay (21) plopsala
Christian Haber (21) The_Fucking_Masters
Fenton Harris (22) Ubisoft
Les Odom (19) WinterIsComing
Martin Warrenburg (21) Monster
Bud Pierre (22) HtcItalia

I lost the election somehow in Denmark (the danish community has declined somewhat).

We have a very inexperienced coach now - that's quite fine, but I fear he won't setup the team for every race - but let's see what happens. If he makes selections for all races, we should have a quite strong team in almost all areas.

Ai, that is bad luck for Denmark.
No selection for this evening and I can see the Danish u23 NT manager did not log in for 5 days (!).
Hopefully it will not be a shamefull waste of an excellent Danish u23 generation this season.  :-[
I can understand that some managers don't play this game very active, but not logging in during the "between-seasons-weekend" is a bit weird, in my opinion. Especially when someone enlisted himself as candidate.

In Australia we also once had an in-active manager halfway the season. (also the u23 and 2 times no selection, if I remember correctly)
After some Australian managers consulted this situation with Oska, it was possible to replace him immidiately by an active NT manager.
So after a few more days perhaps a good idea to do the same when he does not log in anymore.
Good luck with that situation, Timidus.

Too bad Owens started with a breakdown. He finished as 14th.
Carey won some points also with a 19th place, and Power was just outside the points with a 21st place.
At the moment 9th in the ranking by countries. Next week a climbhills race in Andalucia.

Australia u21 has no own topic yet. But they did great in their first race with a 2nd and a 12th place.
Well done Dirk, awesome start and good luck this season as u21 NT manager !  8)

RACE 2 : Jaén, Andalucia

29ºC

Vélez-Málaga,
Two real xp-cyclists are selected, supertop-TT-talents Warrenburg and Laybutt.
Nick Owens will be the teamcaptain. Unfortunately he has no good helpers, so I suspect he has to do it on his own the last few sections of this difficult climbhills race with the finish in Jaén (see picture). Despite that lack of support, I assume he will do well in this race because he is on place 8 in the climb-list of the u23 Dream Team. There is much at stake for him, because after this race he will know if it is possible to battle for the individual u23 world championship. I estimate that in every race the tactics must be perfect and the competition have to make mistakes, only then he has a chance. A nice challenge.  :)

Extra info about this season ; just 4 young Aussies are in the u23 Dream Team :
Owens ; 8th climbing and 1st tour-cyclists.
Pierre ; 5th hills.
Madsen and Battle ; 6th and 10th cobblestones.

Australia u23 selection :

Nick Owens (22) Sacido
Fenton Harris (22) Ubisoft
Kobe Fox (21) OffTheFront
George Embley (22) ItaliaCycling
Chris White (21) OffTheFront
Isaac Carey (22) ADOLF97
Christian Haber (21) The_Fucking_Masters
Martin Warrenburg (21) Monster
Steven Laybutt (19) Argonautjes

Very good job of helper Harris, he even had some energy left to launch teamcaptain Owens into s4.
And Owens did great, he finished as 3rd8)
This means he is now 1st in the individual u23 world championship, just 5 points ahead of the numbers 2 and 3.

Australia u23 two places up in the ranking by countries and now 7th.
Next week we'll stay in Andalucia for a hills race.
