Australia: U21 S39

Season 39 -  Australia U21

< GV List to come here>

Race 1

I did not have a chance to do my selection with excel sheets but seems like I did not really miss anyone.
If I had to pick differently then it would only be to replace Mike Duffy with Gerraint Cain.
Rick and Ike brought along for experience.

Great result in your first race back as National Manager, Dirk :D

And you are a true leader by example, as I know you finished a monster race yourself earlier this week. Tell us more about that in the topic that AA just started, please!  :)

Thanks Vos,
Sorry I was looking for these NT excel sheets but couldnt find one.
Did not want to dig my old database out from the grave in order to run the sql report to produce the GV lists.

Race 3 - Ortisel
I think Vince Alpin is capable of a top 10 result. The top 19yo talent Les Odom is making his debut appearance in international racing this Sunday which should be an interesting race. Unfortunately it seems like Cyking was unhappy with his climbing generation and sold most of his riders and it seems like Greg Friend is no more (race GV was 63.2). Other riders of his Anthony Levin, Niles McCabe, Nick Beal and Alistair Burgess found other teams and is still participating in this race.
Edit: Slight update of GV and Wilt Mayne is now also in the selection

Pos   Name      Age    Rating   Team         Role
1   Vince Alpin      20      66.8      FranšaiseDesJeux      Leader
2   Anthony Levin      20      63.0      Escapada      Free
3   Niles McCabe      20      63.0      sNoW4PeTiNikeiS_2      Dom
4   Les Odom      19      62.2      Zirimola      Dom
5   Freddie Middleton      20      62.0      FrierAccounting      Dom
6   Nick Beal      20      60.1      Mrˇz      Dom
7   Wilt Mayne      20      60.0      Grifos      Dom
8   Ike Johnston      20      59.9      OffTheFront      Dom
9   Alistair Burgess      20      59.9      cave      Dom

Results
I hoped for a better result but perhaps the other riders were better.
At least Vince Alpin had a domestique in every section, which helps a lot in a mountain stage.
I did not think Les Odom and Ike Johnston would be the ones helping in S4 but they did good to stay in the front breakaway.
Super Domestique Nick Beal and others just dropped in S2 while spending more energy than our leader  :-\

Pos   Name   Team Points
7   Vince Alpin   FranšaiseDesJeux 150
20   Anthony Levin   Escapada    10

Good estimation and well done in this race ; Alpin 7th (and 10 extra points with Levin as 20th).
Exciting season you have Dirk, still 1st in the ranking by countries8)
And more good news for Australia, the 19yo toptalent Les Odom was by far the best 19yo (36th vs 80th).

edit ; Les Odom had his debute in international racing a week ago, Australia has an excellent u23 NT manager with a good eye for talent. ;) :))

Yes, not too bad a start but I don't think we will stay #1 for too long  :-\
I will try my best though!

Updated the result section for race #3 above.

Race 4 - Alcazar
My hopes aren't that high for this race. Just looking at some other cyclist from few seasons ago (but it was probably near the end of the season).
Herbie Springsteen had a GV of 70.8 and 19y old Kirk Olsen had a GV of 62.2.

Pos   Name      Age    Rating   Team         Role
1   Elvis Seaman      20      62.7      Teamklimgeit      Leader
2   Barret Thompson      20      61.8      loshombresdelmazo      Free
3   Will Fagan      20      60.9      Losbicikoalas      Dom
4   Jason Brown      19      60.7      OffTheFront      Dom
5   Mike Duffy      20      60.3      AllioliTeam      Dom
6   Barret Acree      20      59.2      PCBurcha      Dom
7   Benjamin Whisman      20      58.4      imbativeis690      Free
8   Neville Paxton      20      57.9      Losbicikoalas      Dom
9   Ashley Jones      20      55.4      Losbicikoalas      Dom

Results
I am very happy with the outcome. Luckily there was a split in Section 4 which was much to our advantage.
The tactics were changed too a conservative one closer to the race and this was the right move.

Pos   Name   Team Points
5   Elvis Seaman   Escapada    180
13   Barret Thompson   Escapada    90
18   Will Fagan   Escapada    30

We are still in first spot and now 90 points ahead of Columbia who scored 50 points less than Australia in this race. Columbia had riders in the 9th and 11th spot.
